There truly is something different about Africa! The second we stepped off the plane in Rwanda, I felt this sense of peace and belonging. Rwanda was a month where I felt so much at home from the people, the ministry, and our host family. There were countless memories and cherished moments from this month, but here is just some sweet highlights ??
- Our host parents were the best! We referred to them as mom and dad Africa!! We just joined right in with their little family too. Our host brothers Joshua, Innocent, and Prince made you feel right at home when it came to nights of card games, loads of selfies, and movie nights
- We worked at the nursery school for kids 3-5 years old. I’ll never forget their sweet laughs and big hugs as they’d come running down the hill to greet you
- Their church doors are always open and so this gave us the opportunity to preach every night. I loved watching them get so into worship and soak up the messages each night
- We hosted a beauty for ashes event with some leading ladies of the church. Our cute little house was filled to the brim with laughter and love that night! We got to paint their nails, share a small devotional, and lovingly serve ladies who selflessly served us all month
- You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing at least 5 children running after you calling you Muzungo (white person lol). It became my favorite word to hear, because nothing could beat the excitement on their faces when they saw you and how they’d jump up and down!
- ALL the birthdays!! Not only did I get to celebrate my birthday in Rwanda, but we also celebrated my teammates Lauren and squad leader, Madison’s birthdays! It was also mom Africa’s birthday at the beginning of the month so we bought a cake to celebrate!
- Our off days were most always spent by the pool of a hotel! It was nice to relax and enjoy seeing other teams that were in the area as well. Our last Saturday, we got to invite our host brothers too and they loved spend some quality time with their sisters!
- All the LOVE! Seriously I can’t quite fully put into words how loved I felt this month. It was a month that I’ll never forget
