The young couple walked down the aisle…
One wearing a white dress and another wearing jeans and a grey shirt…
Why you ask?!?
To have a Christian marriage!
They could only do it today, for the couple was going back to their home country where persecution is common.
No pictures were taken, for fear of their identity getting out…
No beautifully clad people…
No lifelong friends where present…
No fresh flowers…
No family gathered around them…
Truthfully, I can’t remember their names…
But I will remember them,
their circumstances,
their faith,
their willingness to get married in a Christian ceremony,
the beautiful smiles,
the lovely kiss,
the holding hands,
the joy that radiated from them…
They said their vows,
they exchanged rings,
they are pronounced Husband & Wife,
they did the traditional kiss,
and then they are asked to light the unity candle! The bride and the groom each have their own lit candle and together light the unity candle in the middle! Once the unity candle is lit, this represents two becoming one! The candles the bride and groom are holding are blown out which represents them no longer living only for themselves! This is the last thing they do before they walk down the aisle!
Now they are united as an even stronger light to carry back home, to face the unknown, with no promises of an easy future, but secure in their love and blessings from the church!
