So I went to Starbucks today, in Argentina!

I ordered a chai latte and a chocolate chip muffin! Then I handed the lady 2 $100peso bills.

She looks at me and asks for a “carda!”

I look at her confused…

She looks at me confused and asks for a “carda”

Again!

I look at her confused and ask “I can’t pay for my drink with cash?”

She gives up and takes the money!

I am very confused and thinking: “man, they are crazy here in that you can’t pay for food in cash!”

…later I go up to grab a fork to eat my muffin with… and everyone in line has a Starbucks rewards card on top of their cash/credit cards!

(Sidenote: this is mine, my Starbucks name is Mery, it’s easier for everyone to say and write!)

Then it clicks…. She was asking if I had a Starbucks card for all my reward points!!!
(If only I had gotten one of those cards… and it transferred to all the countries in South America! Man, I would have gotten a bunch of free stuff by now!?!)
Oh well!

It’s amazing how conversations and different languages can be so confusing. How one little conversation can be misunderstood, even if you speak the same language! Or if you think you understand what is being asked in a different language!

Such a simple question and misunderstanding!

This makes me laugh, but at the same time, it makes me think deeper! What is the Lord telling and showing me, that I’m not understanding, or I’m misunderstanding!

What am I taking from what the Lord gives me and putting my impression on it or thinking in my limited human brain about!?!

The Lord has bigger and better plans than I can ever image! I would hate to limit his possibilities in working through me, by not giving him the opportunity or being obedient to what he calls me to do!

Lord,

Your plans and ways are grander than I can ever image! I turn over control to you! Help me to listen and obey to what you are telling me! Let your will be done not mine!

Love,

Mallory
