Things learned in Colombia:
- Everyone’s really welcoming…
- The architecture is welcoming with the colorfully painted windows and doors, and the doors are opened to invite you in…
- There is no AC or HEAT here, everything has operable windows or doors, with overhangs to protect from the rain…
- It rains a lot in Filandia, Colombia…
- There are no seasons in Filandia, Colombia, it remains between 60s-70s F year round…
- They have a bunch of fresh local fruit.
- Filandia is located on a hill…
- Colombia is known for their coffee export…
- Filandia is located in one of the coffee growing regions…
- Don’t flush toilet paper, it goes in the trash can…
- But if you do you can always make up a homemade plunger (aka google it… if you have WiFi)…
- You can pretty much find everything that you can in the USA here!
- Dominos pizza , fried chicken, shampoo, deodorant, meds…all can be found here relatively easily…
- The food is really good here…
- A traditional meal for lunch, normally consists of a hearty soup, a meat protein (chicken or pork), some rice, some form of a plantain. Also, some fresh fruit is usually consumed either in a juice or by eating the fruit.
- Colombia is really dog friendly and has a bunch of friendly dogs.
- They Colombia uses the Colombia peso which currently is: $1 US dollar is equal to $3,000 pesos…
- I’ve been learning my colors & numbers in Spanish…well more like relearning… Spanish class in high school was over 12 years ago…
- The kids at the farm schools & the foundation gave a lot of grace in my speaking Spanish…
- Kids no matter where they live love to play games…
- Kids also love you to spend time with them, listening and playing with them even if you don’t understand what they are saying…
- Uno is a universal card game that needs no explanation…
- Our hosts the Menses’ are so loving and kind! We couldn’t have asked for a better host couple for the first month on our race!
- Colombia is a very beautiful country and I’m glad I got to see its beauty first hand!
- Being on the World Race is hard… you never know what you are going to be asked to do, where you will go, who you will meet, how you will live… BUT ITS TOTALLY WORTH IT TO TRUST THE LORD!
