Today we crossed the border into Lesotho!
This country is beautiful, vibrant, loud and full of culture.
As my team was standing around a man walked up yelling and dancing. This is a guy my mom would tell me to stay away from.
Instead, I walked straight up and shook his hand.
“My name is Johnson, I am a drunkard.”
I said, “Johnson, do you know Jesus Christ?”
He said, “Yes Ma’am I do!”
“Well Johnson, you’re not a drunkard – you’re a child of God.”
He seemed to have sobered up a little bit as I told him about 1 Corinthians 3:16.
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?”
What fake identity do you speak over yourself? Perfectionist—a failure—too dramatic—ugly—fat—useless—lazy—a druggie—an eating disorder—never good enough?
Here is the truth.
You are a child of God.
That is your only identity. Because you have the Holy Spirit in you, there is only enough room for the fruits of the spirit.
“The fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” -Gal. 5:22
These are the characteristics God freely gives you when you give your life to Him.
Satan tries to give you something different. He tells you lies that make you believe your identity is not in Christ and he feeds you lies that trickle in to the way you act and treat people.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing… This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” – John 15: 5,8
When we remain in Christ there is no room for the devil’s lies to creep in. We must fill our minds with the Word of God everyday so that nothing else can get in. And when someone else is believing a lie, we must step up and tell them the truth of who they are in Christ.
So I told Johnson he is a son.
“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will – to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” -Eph. 1:4-6
Walk in the freedom of knowing you are a son and daughter of the creator of the universe.
