God is bigger than we think.
That’s a phrase we always toss around, “God is SOO BIG!” But really how big do we actually think he is? Does he hear every single one of our prayers? Can he help me pass this test I didn’t study for? Can he get me the promotion? Provide enough money to go on a vacation?
We ask the small questions, but do we ever ask the bigger ones?
Can God heal someone of Cancer? Can he heal blind eyes in front of me? Can he move mountains? Can he speak words through me to someone else?
As I started the race I had all these questions running through my head. Is healing really possible? Can people truly hear the voice of God and receive a vision or word for someone?
I was skeptical.
In my first month on the World Race I had the opportunity to be a vessel for God to heal someone. Actually, to heal 10 someones. When we accept Jesus into our life we are baptized with the Holy Spirit and now the Spirit dwells within us. Which means ALL OF US have the power of the Holy Spirit. Which means ALL OF US can heal in Jesus name. We just have to be uncomfortable and try.
I got to be a part of a healing of 2 different women with Kidney Stones, a UTI Infection, Cataracts, Impaired Vision, Arthritis so bad the woman was bed ridden and couldn’t sit up on her own, Tuberculosis and shoulder pain, Pneumonia, and my own stye!
Not to mention yesterday one of my squad mates stopped as we were walking down the road and prayed for a woman with her knee wrapped and a limp. Guess what happened when she walked away? No pain and no limp.
Here’s the truth:
I am not experiencing these things because I am a missionary. I am experiencing them because I have the faith knowing that my God is big and can heal anything.
“Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness…Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” Matthew 10:1-8
The crazy part is, Jesus tells his disciples when he leaves, it will be better for them because He will send Holy Spirit, and the disciples will be able to greater things than even Jesus did (John 14:12-14).
My point in telling you this is not so you will go out today and try to heal in Jesus name. Do I think you should… YES! But what I want you to get out of this is that God is so much bigger than we think, and we should follow him as radically as we can.
Luke 9:23 says, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
I implore you to seek the Lord with all your heart. Dig deep into spending time with Him and studying the Word of God. Spend time praying and memorizing scripture. Join a church that loves people and focuses on discipleship. Go out to the mall and challenge yourself to share the Gospel with 1 person. Make it a rule to tell 10 people a day Jesus loves you!
Whatever it is that you need to do to deny yourself and follow God more DO IT! Why not try?
He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a little thing is unrighteous also in much. Luke 16:11
Rejoice in the little things because that’s all God wants from you. He wants a yes in your spirit.
God doesn’t call for your ability, he calls for your availability.
