Yes this is my diarrhea story from when I was sick. I hope it’s funny to you as much as it was to me and some people of the people I’m with. If you can’t stomach poop stories, I advise you not to read beyond this sentence.
I woke up on Sunday, August 18th at about 6am so warm and comfortable in my bed not wanting to get out and use the restroom. So I decided to lay there until out of nowhere my stomach felt like it was dropping and I knew I had two choices. To stay in bed and poop my pants or run to the bathroom. I chose the bathroom and it wasn’t pretty. I thought it was over so casually I went back to lay down. And then the same stomach drop came and I was very cocky in that moment. I thought I would be able to overcome what was about to happen. I sat there and let out what I so desperately wanted to be a fart and sure enough it wasn’t. It was a shart. I POOPED MY PANTS Y’ALL. Mortified and embarrassed, I rushed to the bathroom across the hall from our bedroom and it was occupied. I grabbed my clean undies and pants, ran to the other bathroom, and changed. I thought my nightmare of diarrhea was over and sure enough my body said, “HECK NO”. I had diarrhea 2 other times in that same hour and then I was convinced something wasn’t right. I was encouraged by my friend and leader Kristen that it’s time to go get checked out by the doctor. Normally in the states, I would just power through it. But because of the area we were in, traveling in Africa for 3 months… a lot of people on our squad are getting sick with malaria, typhoid, pneumonia, parasites, and infections.
I need you to understand that this the kind of diarrhea that you cannot wait and if you do it will be disastrous.
Kristen, Michael, and myself were outside right by our gate to the compound waiting for our transportation to pick us up. There were some children hanging out before the church service started. We were just talking and killing time. Then all of the sudden I had another urge. My eyes popped out of my head, I went into panic mode. I knew with everything inside of me there was NO WAY I would make it back to the house (which was about 100 yards away) I had to go then and there was no turning back.
I told Michael, ”Please get the kids inside.”
Both Michael and Kristen were like, “Uhh you’re really going to go here? Like right now? You can’t make it to the house?”
I said, “There’s no way it’s now or never.”
Michael was telling the children, “I promise you, you do not want to be out here right now.”
As soon as I saw Michael getting into the compound, I dropped my pants, squatted, and was doing my business as Kristen was trying her best to cover me. As a person is making their way toward us! Haha, what a life I’m living.
We finally made it to the hospital and I had gone a total of 11 more times that day. It was awful. It literally felt like I was peeing through my booty. Thankfully it didn’t burn. (I’m so sorry for all the detail.) The doctor diagnosed me with acute gastroenteritis basically a bacterial infection.
The next morning I was woken up at the butt crack of dawn to a nurse wanting to poke me. Me being the sassy lady that I am, I let her know that I was very annoyed to be woken up out of my deep slumber. Before she started poking me and giving me meds through my IV, I asked her if I could use the restroom. I did my business got back in my bed and held my hand out for her to poke me. I was just sitting there when all of the sudden it came out of nowhere and I pooped my pants again!! She told me it was ok, and that she was sorry. (These two phrases are something that this culture says all the time. They apologize for something they didn’t even do and say it’s ok when it’s clearly not ok! It’s just how they speak so I got used to it)
All in all I have never had diarrhea more than I ever had in 24 hours than I did Sunday and Monday. The only thing I could do was laugh because anything I ate or drank, went right through me within 10 minutes. Thankfully, I’m at 95% right about now. I have finished my antibiotic, so it can only go up from here.
I figured it was time for funny blog so I hope this made you laugh. I’m feeling much better and thankful I went to the doctor before the infection got worse. Thank you for the prayers for healing and love. I ask the you continue to pray for my squad’s health as many were in and out of the doctor’s office and still aren’t feeling 100%.
