Ethiopians are very relaxed! Typically nothing is really on time. Church can be anywhere from 2 hours to 4 hours. Meals can either be 10mins early or 30 mins late. It really just depends on the day. Although it was hard to get used to at first, since Americans run on schedules and times, it is something I have learned to love. Because everything is so laid back that I don’t ever need a watch. I get to just live life with no agenda, aside from loving on people. The people here have taught me a lot about slowing down and being intentional. As I work on the road in front of the compound I have people of all ages stop and thank me for working on the road. They even let me and my teammates hold their goats or ride their horses even though they probably have things to do. When I wake up and get breakfast the kitchen staff all stop to give me a hug and ask me how I slept, each day without fail. When I walk to the reforestation sight I am welcomed by an older man who comes up to each of my team mates to hug and thank them for coming. Each person I encounter is so intentional and so kind. The funny thing is, most of these people don’t even know English. All of their love is portrayed through actions. The Lord has definitely shown me that words have power but our actions, when noticed, speak volumes.

P.S. still fundraising! Still have $2,300 left to raise. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. My email is [email protected]
