Time here in Costa Rica has been flying by I can hardly keep track of the days. O ver the last three weeks my team and I have been working with a ministry called Metro ministries. Metro originated in new York city in the slums to get kids off the streets away from drugs, alcohol, and their not so good homes to play games and learn about Jesus. That ministry in new York created a life changing program for kids all over the world. This program spread all over central America and made its way to costa rica, where a local and his wife who is from Germany decided to take the step to open one there. Metro has been changing some of the worst neighborhoods in costa rica.
My team and I work in two of the three slums that they go too. We go Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoon from 2-6. Wednesday is a program for all little kids. A group of us go gather the kids from their houses while others set up in the church. Then we do games, soccer of course and later go inside for the lesson worship and a skit. After it is all over we walk the kids home.
On Thursdays we are in the same neighborhood but do the program geared toward older kids. This is my favorite day because there are a bunch of young teenagers who are eager to know more about our awesome god and we play lots of soccer. One Thursday I even got to share a part of my testimony and that was really great.
Fridays are a little different we go to a slum that is still pretty fresh to the ministry so most of the time there is still working on getting to know the kids and their families and opening them up to what the ministry is doing. At this slum there are not as many kids but it is still really great and just working on bringing heaven to these kids and the neighborhood.
The rest of my days and ministry look a lot like this…
- Mondays its the whole squads morning to rejuvenate, process, and get taught. This look slike processing with questions we need to do every week. And then a teaching taught by someone on the squad, a podcast, or even house church. This will go on all morning and then after lunch the whole squad heads out after prayer together to do “ATL” which is ask the lord. So that can be doing whatever the lord asks of you that day.
- Tuesday my team does ATL all day. In the morning we do prayer together as a team and then sometimes go out together to do ministry it mostly looks like evangelism and other times we split ways and all do different things.
- Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we do ATL in the morning and Metro in the afternoons.
