Hello everyone, we are now in Battambang Cambodia. We took a 22-hour train ride from Da Nang Vietnam to Ho Chi Minh City. Then we took a 7-hour bus ride to Phnom Penn. Then we got on another bus from there to Battambang. Da Nang was great! I want to talk quickly about Da Nang and know where we are at in Battambang. Da Nang had a population of about 1.2 million. It had a lot of bright neon lights, really cool city. It had a lot of really cool bridges over the rivers. Da Nang is right off the coast of the South China Sea. It was one of the more developed areas that we have been to so far. We stayed in a hostel by the ocean. It is a very touristy city that has a lot of expensive hotels. A lot of Americanized foods. They have one of the nicest beaches in Asia. It was different than I expected.
Here in Battambang it is a lot smaller. They have a population of about 200,000. Here people are a little more desperate for money. We have heard stories from our host about the poverty here already. In Da Nang there is little to no crime which is crazy. That’s not to say that the people of Da Nang don’t struggle with money. All the countries that we have been too have some struggle with money. A city with 1.2 million with little to no crime is unheard of in America. Every city over 400,000 in America probably has a ghetto of some kind. We could walk anywhere at night, our host told us we could even walk alone if we wanted to at any hour of the day.
I decided not to send any blogs out due to the fact that Vietnam is a closed country. I could have sent you my password for my blog, so you could read them. But I decided to wait until I left Vietnam to write any blogs. Adventures in Missions has rules on all that stuff.
So far Battambang has been a good. We are working with kids from ages 6-17 at a English class that our host has been running since she got to Battambang 4 years ago. Her name is Sherell. Her son Yannick also stays with her here in Battambang. She has hosted about 32 teams of racers! We are her last team and she will move to Malaysia. I will tell what we are doing in more detail soon.
