Urban Dictionary defines a “Jesus Freak” as:
n. Someone who displays an unusual or embarrassing amount of enthusiasm for Jesus.
Well after hearing about my decision to go on the World Race and reading my first blog, you’re probably thinking, “Well Jillian, that’s kind of what I think you are”. But don’t worry, I GET IT! I completely get where you’re coming from. I used to feel the same way about some people. Devoted Christians are sometimes perceived as crazy, or over the top, or weird, or even delusional.
I used to consider myself a Christian. I believed in God and prayed sometimes, and thought that was pretty much all there was to it. But there’s SO MUCH more! I didn’t understand what I was missing out on by only making God a small part of my life. I now understand He wants to be the conductor of my life. He knows your heart better than you do and has better plans for your life than you could ever come up with on your own. It can seem terrifying to hand over the control of your life to God (it was so scary for me at first because I was a big time life planner outer), but it’s been the most freeing feeling! I’m learning that I can trust my life to God and know that He will lead me down the best path.
Think about it like this: If you believe God created the world, makes plants grow, makes sure the birds have worms to eat, created tiny little ants that can carry crumbs double the size of their bodies, created dogs to be so darn cute, then why wouldn’t He care about your life and have a specific plan for you on this earth?
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20
It wasn’t until about a year and a half ago that I understood why some people seemed so sold out for Jesus. It’s because God can truly change your life for the better if you let Him! He’s always right there beside you waiting for you to grab His hand. You just have to reach out.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20
You may also be wondering why such a radical change? Well once you experience Jesus’ love, everything changes! It’s just too life changing and good! God wants you to experience a sense of joy that only He can give you. You can experience that joy by loving Him with your whole heart and following Him.
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:24-26
Why would I ever consider changing career paths from having a full time job and getting to experience the glamor of the music industry to jumping into the uncertainty of overseas ministry? Well the answer to that question is Jesus! For real, He changes lives! With time, God can show you a whole new perspective on life.
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
“His love gives life.” John 10: 10-11
“We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
