The Race has made me a grandma; I go to bed at 8:30 every night. However, with our new ministry, I stay up so late! My team and I go out every Friday night with an organization in San José that works alongside prostitutes. Their mission is to see them as people and to show them their dignity through deep love. Most of the people on the streets are transgender men dressed as women. We drive around in a van late at night and when we see someone, we stop and go out in smaller groups to go talk and ask them if they need prayer. We give them coffee and cookies and really earn the right to be heard. This ministry goes back to the same people in order to build relationships and then they can share God with them more openly.
One of my favorite parts of this ministry is the way that they sit together as a team for prayer, devotion, and worship before going out. We get to sit in a small living room space with 15-20 people and spend time filling up before going out. I love this time because we are able to sit and hear from God who is on His heart that night!
On Tuesday, the devil was way too present. While we were worshipping, the devil was messing with the speaker and trying to cause us to step back. God was so present in the room and the devil just couldn’t deal with that. We still pushed through and worshipped and met with God and then we went out.
Doing this ministry, I’ve realized that if you don’t have faith that God will move the mountains in your way, you will walk out into the battlefield not well-equipped. This isn’t just some simple and easy ministry. We need to be mentally, spiritually, and physically ready! The devil is on the prowl because the people we are going out to love are so easily attacked. We need to be ready and we need to walk with spiritual authority.
I love being able to go out late at night to do this because the streets are much different at night. We see things we don’t see during the day. We see much more hurt and instability. Some of these people do not want to be prostitutes but think it’s the only way they can get money for their family. But, we have hope for them and I love being able to share that with them. Even if the conversation is simple and we don’t get to share the gospel, God is alive and breathing through the conversations.
Tonight, my team goes out again and I’m excited for what God is going to do! If you’d like to join me in prayer, we’d love it! We will be out from 7pm- 12:30am! We spend 2 hours in worship and prayer, so we will be out on the streets from the hours of 9:30-12:30, I believe! If God gives you a word, comment it or text it to me! We are believing that tonight will be life-changing for someone!
Love you all! Thanks so much!
