We have made it to Cambodia! After 4 days of travel, we have made it to Battambang, Cambodia, our new home for the next 3 months. We start ministry in a couple days, and we will be teaching English at a local school. I am super excited to be here and I believe that the Lord is doing amazing things here that we get to be a part of.
While sitting with the Father and asking Him about our time here, He gave me the word “solidify”. I believe that these next three months- the final months of the race- will be a season of the Lord solidifying the changes He has made in me and the growth that has occurred.
I also believe that these 3 months are a season of reliance. After spending 6 months in Latin America, where the culture is similar to American culture and I’ve grown to understand the language, the transition to Cambodia is hard. Not knowing the language and adjusting to the culture here is difficult, but I believe that when I acknowledge my weaknesses- whether they be physical, spiritual, mental, or emotional- and invite the Lord into them I then become full of strength.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 sums this reliance up beautifully:
“At first I didn’t think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me,
‘My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.’
Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size—abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.”
Ultimately, I only know that this last part of the race and this new season in Cambodia will be a season to solidify and rely. I have no idea what else it will hold, but I am trusting in the Father’s goodness and His promise to bring everything to completion. I am thankful for the work He has already done in me and throughout the last 6 months, and I believe that there is so much more to come.
