Why did the chicken cross the road? From Reece (Squad Leader) Because he was an Unscripted chicken and lead by the Spirit, as we all should be.

Who is your favorite Disney Princess? From Steph  It’s a tie between Belle, Mulan and Ariel. Can’t choose sorry.

Who is your favorite teammate? From Cari (Team CAKE) That would Definitely be Cari but she’s everyone’s favorite soooo no one is surprised.

What has been the most challenging thing on the race so far and what has been the most rewarding? From Kaelyn (Team CAKE)
They are the same thing! Being in community basically 24/7. My team has an incredible level of chill, trust, and desire to see one another grow. I am truly blessed to be with them!! And the Lord knew exactly what we needed. I am very very independent and private and having to give those things up has been both challenging and rewarding.

What do you miss the most about home? From Ana (Team Harmony)
Honestly, working! I miss the routine, I miss being being productive and being tired in a way only three 12’s can make me. Plus I just miss nursing in general and getting to use my gifts in those ways. I am growing other areas though…but it’s hard to not be operating where I know I excell.

Biggest growth/shift in your perception of Jesus? From Hannah (Team Deep) I’ve experienced Jesus in a new way because my “value” and “relationship” had been largely based on productivity and my small group community. Coming out here, where we haven’t nearly been as “productive” as I expected, I have been learning to just abide, and THAT is where relationship and value stem from. And that “ministry” is birthed in the overflow of oneness with the Lord.

Who has been one person that you’ve met that made and impact on your life and why? From Jenna (Team Harmony)
SOOOO many!! I am going to exclude World Race Staff/Leadership and my Squad from this answer because, well, you know who you are and I love you all very much.

As far as met out here in “dees streets”: in each country I have met many incredible people that have definitely impacted my journey, my view of myself and my walk and the Lord. This is a hard question!!

Right now I would have to say it is Yosi, from Bandung Indonesia. Please see the last question for why 🙂

In what area have you experienced the most growth on the race? From America (Team CAKE)
Vulnerability….learning to be open and trusting others to steward our relationship well.

What is the ugliest vegetable? From Jenna (Team Harmony)
All vegetables are beautiful in their own way JENNA geeze…in fact the most mishapen, abnormal veggies are the coolest.

What is one thing you wished you brought on the race? From Kaelyn (Team CAKE)
Slides and body spray! (But I was able to buy some so yay!)

If you could sum up your race so far in one word what would it be and why? From Mhairi (WR alum)“Submission”. This kind of mission lifestyle…you can’t afford to think you know it all. I have needed to really practice and learn what it means to be submitted to the Lord in all aspects of my life. Literally ALL ASPECTS.

Best dance moves? From Chelsey (Team Harmony)
(What happens in Girl Gang stays in Girl Gang but I’ll just sat y’all’s husbands gon be BLESSED)
But forreal I think Josh wins mostly because he can’t control himself when there’s a good beat and I love the authenticity of that.

What is the most exotic food you’ve tried this trip? Did you like it? From Steph
My beautiful sweet brilliant friend Soniya took us on a food tour around Penang, Malaysia and that included durian!! It smells kinda foul but tasted SUPER sweet with a texture like fresh mozzarella. I didn’t hate it but would never go out of my way to have it again. We also tried snake on a stick in Cambodia but it was so tiny there wasn’t much meat. Didn’t care for it.

What has made you sad in this trip? From Bekam (JVMI) Definitely missing all the medical outreaches this year!!! No but seriously….it makes me sad when I think about the enormity of the amount of people who don’t know freedom. That there are people all over who don’t know the Lord and in my own human limitations I can’t do anything but love the one person in front of me and let the Lord do the rest.

What is your favorite God moment from this trip so far? From Steph

(This turned into a long one: but it’s the best so hang in there!!)

Hunter posted a public trip on the Couchsurfing app about what we were doing here in Indonesia, and a girl name Yosi, who is a believer, reached out. She came over to the debrief house a few times at the beginning of the month to hang out and talk with us as fellow believers. She had not opened her Couchsurfing app in literally years, but for some reason was prompted to that day. I thought that was absolutely incredible! Definitely the Lord in that and he was able to use Hunter and others to speak into Yosi’s life. But the Lord wasn’t done there.

Every time we move locations, we first ask the Lord to show us where He wants us to go. The Lord gave each person pictures for what we were to do in Indonesia. Holding these things in mind, we do also have a set amount we can spend ($5 per person, per night) and there was only one place that was in budget. I had tried for TWO hours to book it online, but none of the credit cards I was using (team and personal) worked. And there was no way to contact the host. I was frustrated, and with literally ALL the girls’ expecting me to take care of this, I was annoyed and felt AWFUL.

However, Sam said she had a contact that had a place not too far away, and there was room for all of us. The contact said she would need to stay with us there, per request of the host, because a group of foreigners alone in this area would draw lots of attention. Out of options, we all agreed to just go for it! I didn’t know at the time, that that contact was Yosi!

The place was exactly what God has shown several of us in visions just days before….from barbed wire, to stone walls, to gated “fortress”, village, jungle. Yosi didn’t know that.

The first night at our new house and we had a worship night….and as a team of 11 girls we prayed over her, and encouraged her. God gave us specific words and visions for her….and it was one of the most powerful nights I’ve had yet.

Our first full day together, Kaelyn, Jenna, Yosi and I went to a Kopi Luak shop. On our way there we spoke to our Grab (i.e. Uber) driver and he was a believer too! We blessed him, and we able to pray with him. Also, at the end of the day, we blessed our coffee host and prayed for him as well, though he not a believer.

A few days later, God used what we prayed over Yosi the first night to minister to one of her friends unexpectedly who had been quite isolated herself, and would otherwise be completely alone with no one knowing her situation. This revelation was moving…she didn’t know her friend was there, or that she was alone. There would never have been any way to know that. Yosi just thought she left church. She didn’t know why. And she was able to love her and now can be a partner with her though a difficult time.

Since then, Yosi has been staying with us, and also moved with us to Jakarta. We have been simply living our Unscripted life, seeking God every day together for what He wants us to do and where we will go…. living as an example of what it looks like to walk out the Gospel and listen to God’s voice.

Even today as Yosi and I sit on the couch together in our hostel and discuss life….she says to me “How you prayed for me was big. I don’t know how you knew, but it just showed me how big God is. The words you say, I don’t know how you knew. The things you guys say you are dealing with: I do too and I would never have know you guys have struggles in those places.”

As a team, the ladies have been moving more and more into trust and vulnerability. Two days ago was my day to lead group and the Lord lead me into a discussion about how we each received love, and also what areas of our lives we still struggle with. Being able to share and be transparent with one another allowed Yosi to see that just because we are “missionaries” and called to this life, doesn’t mean we have it all figured out and everything is perfect. She learned she is not alone in her areas of growth and development in her spiritual walk.

Yosi had a job interview here in Jakarta on Saturday. We were able to pray for her, and Kaelyn felt that even if she doesn’t get the job there is an assignment there for her. Turns out, Yosi didn’t get the job this time, but she did make several friends and is keeping in contact with them. That was her unscripted assignment.

She also had the opportunity to bring 3 of the 11 of us to her friend’s wedding. We encouraged her to ask the Lord who to pick, and she said she would pray about it. She felt unsure about who she felt God wanted her to choose… and we all drew numbers instead. Well, it turns out she heard right, because each person she felt should go to the wedding drew the correct number. How amazing is God!! That even as we practice hearing His voice that He meets us with confirmation!! He is faithful!

Having Yosi experience these things with us I hope has changed her perspective on the power of small acts of love and what it looks like to love the person in front of us to share the Gospel of Christ, and be always in listening. I believe, because of God, we have been encouraging to her in an unbelievable and unexpected way.

Unscripted 2019 was originally not supposed to come to Indonesia, but it was added as the 4th country on our route (while opening up the entirety of Europe in July). Yosi had been praying for God to show her believers who truly love Him, people who are truly living out the Word. She had been isolated, discouraged, and questioning her value and the effectiveness of her acts of love towards others.

Could God have heard her prayers and sent the entire Unscripted team here, for her? Could He have laid it on the hearts of leadership to make it an All Girls month so Yosi could be in a community of female believers? Could God have blocked my cards for the first house? Does God love Yosi so much that He would send us all here, all for her? For her friend, who would otherwise be completely alone in her situation? Or the girls at the interview? Or us, to remind us how specific and intentional God is in how He operates?

He is the God who leaves the 99 for the one.

Could He see us right where we are and know just what we need and send someone to you? Is He sending you to be that person to the “one”?

Why did the chicken cross the road? If that chicken is me….I crossed it for Yosi this month. If that chicken is God…He crosses it for you every day. Are your eyes open? Do you see Him?
