WE HAVE MADE IT TO PERU!

This month the whole squad broke off into our teams to different parts of Peru. 2 teams as well as mine are around the city of Trujillo, 1 is in the jungle and the guys are in Cusco. We arrived to our new compound – Inka Link Peru- and our mouths dropped. It feels weird to be in this compound only our team, we have so much free space to go think or do devotions. Our daily life here is about a 180 compared to last month. In Ecuador we had something going on all the time and it was a very stimulating environment, as here our schedule is very relaxed and we have a lot of free time.

Our schedule follows this outline usually Monday-Friday
My devos 6:45-8
Breakfast 8-9
Ministry (either cleaning or helping with Inka Taki) 9-11ish
Free time 11ish – 1
Lunch 1-2:30
Free time till 4
4 -6ish is our second ministry of the day
6-7 free time (usually work out in this time)
7 dinner
8/8:15 team time

Through Inca Link there are four programs that they run; Inca Thakhi, Elim, Amijai and Mana

Inca thakhi is an organization that disciples neighbouring children through sports. The guys who lead this are Gato and Yair, they are so much fun and are full of Gods  joy and love. They are the main people who take us places as we are not allowed out of the compound with out a local. Some of the stuff we do with the kids is play soccer, skate board or on the swing set with the children when they are in our compound. As well on Saturday mornings we go play floor ball (basically floor hockey!) Last week Gato and Yair took us sand boarding and it was so much fun, although we had to hike in sand to the top of the mountain. It made me miss the snow and going skiing.

Elim is a ministry in the garbage dump that does VBS and tutoring. We go to them on Saturday afternoon and create lesson plans and play with the kids. Yesterday Saturday 24th, we got to teach the bible story of Esther. This was really cool because our team name is Esther so we got to act out our name and what it means to us and why we choose to be Esther. I of course was Esther and had lines in Spanish and pretty sure I messed up every word, but that’s the cost of learning. This ministry really hits me because you are in the middle of the garbage dump and it smells really bad and there are fires and just mud everywhere, but yet all of these kids live there and just to see how joy they get from coming to these bible studies is overwhelming.

Amijai is a women and children devotional and teaching. We do this with Brenda who is drop dead gorgeous and the sweetest lady. On Monday we have the women’s bible study which we are trying to bring community into, for they just hear the lesson and then leave. We talked with the leaders and we are trying fir the next 2 weeks to make more conversation and questions among the ladies. With the kids the other day the moms do their crafts and the kids get a lesson and crafts to do.

Mana is an after school day care/ VBS that we go to once a week and get to be involved in a Sunday type learning afternoon. As well we get to create and act out bible stories for the kids, this is a lot of fun and the kids here are crazy loud but all so cute.

Through all this and having breaks a lot throughout the day has given us lots of time to reflect and grown within our selfs and our relationship with God.
This scedual has also been a bit stressful for some mornings we wake up not sure what were doing that day and as a task oriented person it has been really hard to just sit and be okay with not knowing.

My prayers
To be okay not knowing whats going on all the time
To just sit and rest in jesus knowing hes got it
To just be patience
For a connections with the kids that doesn’t need a language to communicate
