10 years ago this week I was on a Mexico Missions trip with my church and came home forever changed. During this trip my team and I built a house for a family of five people and it was the size of my bedroom at my parents’ house. Before this trip I had witnessed poverty in America, but this was a poverty my eyes had never seen. On the last night of our trip my youth pastor gave us a message called “Donde Estan Los Trabajorades? This is Spanish for where are the workers? He challenged us to think about how 10% of the world has 90% of the world’s wealth and to think about what shall we do now moving forward. I was challenged to think about how there might be more to the Christian walk than attending church once a week, giving a small offering in the offering plate, and carrying on with my week as though nothing had happened. Up until that point I grew up going to church, attended Sunday school, and learned a lot of Bible stories about God but did not see how any of those stories directly impacted my life. That night the gospel was presented to me in a way that I understood it and during a worship session we sang the song Jesus Paid it All. For the first time I raised my hands in worship and decided that I was done living for myself and from that point on I wanted to commit my adult life to actively following the Lord.
10 years later I am on a World Race Missions trip in Chiang Mai Thailand. These past 10 years have had many highs and lows, but I’m continually thankful for the ways God continues to blow my mind with His faithfulness. I look forward to seeing what God has in store for the next 10 years of my life whether single or married whether living in America or living overseas.
Ministry update: My team and I enjoyed working at the Agape orphanage for children living with HIV AIDS. Tomorrow we are flying from Thailand to Zimbabwe. Please pray that as a team we would begin preparing our hearts for Zimbabwe and we would transition smoothly into the new cultures we will be experiencing.
Falling in love with the precious children at Agape
Last day at Agape with our high energy ministry host Avis. She is the founder and director at Agape and has been working at Agape for 43 years. She is 72 years old and has more energy than most people in their 20s. It was incredible to hear her stories about her many years on the Missions field and I learned a lot from her.
My entire squad came with me to see Lion King on my birthday. I had a great birthday with the 20 amazing people I am traveling and serving with this year. Lion King got us even more excited to go to Africa.
