Howdy!

My name is Carter Groves and I have the privilege of going on the World Race next January! I will be going with a team on Route 1 and I can not be more excited! But first things first…

A little bit about me. Yeah you could go read my About Me section but just to give you the gist, I come from what I consider a big family. Four brothers and sisters, a dog, and my parents. Family dinners can either be the most relaxing part of the day or the most stressful.

I enjoy being outdoors, camping, hiking and all that fun jazz. I am currently finishing my Senior year at Texas A&M University studying History and Arabic. I love reading, and some of my collection always draws the question “What class is that for?” and then comes the whole… “It isn’t.”

But let’s move on.

Why did I choose the World Race?

Every time I answer this question, people are really surprised by how short my answer is, I believe it is what God wants me to do. For the longest time I have been drawn to oversee missions. It began with simulation camps in high school to see if I would like it. Then some short term domestic missions and I really loved that.

But the big seller was my trip to Cambodia. I have never been so humbled in my life. I could write a whole another Blog on that trip… I just might, stay tuned. We were with AIM this time and we helped a local ministry care for the sexually abused children affected by the Sex Trafficking Industry in the city. It was the first time out of the country for me and it was an overwhelming experience.

I experienced evil. I experienced anger that I couldn’t fix the situations of these children in that moment. I was drawn to staying because the work was not done. Ever since then I have been looking for an opportunity to serve again oversees. Then junior year of college rolls around.

My relationship with Christ has not always been the best. But college has done the opposite as it does for many Christians. I grew, a lot! I have really learned the meaning of faith by grace and not by works and it has brought me so much joy. Continuing to grow and hearing in passing about the World Race I thought, God if this is something you want me to do, don’t let this feeling be some passing fancy, this was January 2017.

I prayed for a year and the World Race website was one of my top websites in 2017. When the routes came out a couple of months ago I asked some of my mentors what they thought and got a lot of confirmation in my choice and finally I felt like it was time to apply.

Two months later here I am! Now I want you to follow me in my journey in fundraising, training, preparation, and the trip! Please, if you care to, subscribe to my blog and you can notifications of when I post a new blog or information. You can also give online through my profile if you feel called. But prayer is always wanted and needed.

James 1:27: Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
