All highschool graduates know this question. If I was asked “What are you going to do now?” every two seconds over the course of my graduation ceremony- that would amount to around 4,500 times. It’s not about what I’m going to do specifically, but I do know where I feel called to go. He’s called me to put all of my own plans on pause, and to let Him show me something before continuing on with my education and a career. It was this strong, primal feeling of trust to let Him show me what He has in store.
Being a missionary of some sort had always been a dream of a dream. Growing up helping my older brother Andy in and out of the hospital with severe scoliosis, I’ve realized the joy I receive to be able to help someone. Through the help and acts of service from others throughout my life, this calling to serve God through serving others became increasingly stronger.
World Race Gap Year is a program under a nonprofit organization called Adventures in Missions that has been around since 1989. Specifically it is a group of 300 youth similar to me, split up into 6 teams of 50. These teams are then sent off to different countries to serve, and do so in faith.
My route would be spending 2 months in Ecuador, 1 month in Peru, 3 months in Guatemala, and 3 in Cambodia. The services I would be helping with differ per country, and vary from investing in churches, manual labor, teaching English, helping in orphanages, and serving families living in extreme poverty and desperation.
You might be asking why I keep saying “would” instead of “will.” Hence the leap of faith that involves raising the amount of financial support needed to guide me to this mission. Starting with this blog, I hope to not only raise money, but to share with you what has brought me here to this point, and take you along with me throughout the journey ahead!!
I invite you to be a part of this experience with me, make yourself a part of this story, and whether that is financial support by donating, or spiritual support of prayers- I am beyond thankful!!
