Hey Everyone! ?? I meant to post this before Training Camp, but clearly that didn’t happen so here it is now almost 2 months late haha.

A few days ago (or months… ??) I learned a couple lessons that I thought I’d share.

Lesson 1.

When you decide to go on a serious hike being timed; make sure to wear shoes and socks that you know for sure will not hurt/start to blister your feet!

Lesson 2.

This one’s more of a story.  So, story time! ??

A few days ago (or months… ??), my mom noticed Stella (our cat) pawing at and following something on the stairs so, naturally, she went to check it out!  Next thing, I hear is a scream.  What was going on? What was it? She very quickly lets me know that it was a huge spider!

EWWWWWW!!!

Here I’d like to add that we both are scared of spiders, especially big creepy looking spiders!

Needless to say, we were both completely freaking out.  We were trying to figure out how to kill this big spider without having what was needed (a fly swatter) to hit it with.  We tried bug sprays, but that made the spider jump and run which, as fellow spider haters may know, did not go over well with us we screamed like the girls we are and ran!

So, what’s this got to do with a lesson? Stick with me I promise I’m getting there.

Not moments after running and screaming my mom said something, she said, “Where’s a dad when you need him?”

I found myself thinking, well my dad’s probably in bed, but I wonder if he would answer the phone if I called him. I guess I forgot to mention, it was about 11:30 in the pm, so very late in the evening but, we were getting nowhere, so I decided to call him.

To my surprise he answered the phone!

To be honest, I wasn’t really expecting him to answer, so hesitated a bit when he did.  He asked what I wanted, what was up and I asked him if he would come over and kill a massive spider that had gotten inside the house, that my mom and I were struggling to kill.  Again, to my surprise he was willing, a little miffed at first, but willing.  He got out of bed and headed our direction.

Before he got there the big spider had jumped off the stair and run under our couch! :O

I did not do well with this; just picture those videos you’ve seen of people running from spiders or other creepy crawlers and jumping on couches and tables and going crazy and that was me! Well, maybe I was a little less dramatic than that but that’s because I didn’t have a table or couch to jump on or a place to run to, but some tears may have been shed…

When my dad got there, we had to move the couch and then let him do the work we could not and watch him kill the spider, which he did (with what we did not have (a fly swatter)), and we were so extremely happy about it!

Now you may be wondering where the lesson is in this crazy story. Maybe it’s that you shouldn’t freak out about a spider, or to get over the fear and just kill the darn spider?  But, that’s not it at all. I realize that we did not handle the situation very well, and that we probably shouldn’t have royally freaked out so much, but that’s not the lesson I got out of the situation.

Instead, God spoke to me and used the occurrence as a comparison. He showed me some things about Himself in a different way.  Things I’m sure I’ve heard before, but hadn’t thought of in this light.

I’m terrified of spiders; my dad knows that. He, however, is not scared of spiders and was able to take care of the spider for me, because he loves me. He knows I need to overcome my fear, but is kind enough to kill the spider for me, until I reach that point.

He also had what I needed, when I did not.

There are things in this life that we are afraid of and God knows our hopes and our fears, He is fully aware of what we are afraid of. He also knows that we do not need to fear what we do, and He is not afraid of what we are, He has no fear (He is perfect love and perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18)).

When I am terrified, He won’t hesitate to ‘kill the spider’, He knows I don’t need to be afraid, but has compassion for His daughter. He’s not afraid to do what we are afraid to do.  Where we are weak He is strong.

However, suddenly something else was brought to my attention after that. God asked (not audibly), why did he (my dad) come? And I thought because he loves me, but that didn’t feel right, it was true, but not quite the answer God wanted me to get to. Therefore, He asked (not audibly), how’d he (my dad) know to come? That’s when I realized he wouldn’t have come if I hadn’t called him and asked him to come.

God, wants to help us.  He is always there, waiting to be invited into our situations. I also realized that I had to get over myself and my pride to call and ask my dad to come and help us.

Sometimes, we can get in our own way and pride can keep us from calling upon our Father God for help.

When we call upon Him and allow Him to help us, He will always show up no matter the circumstance, God meets us where we are and comes when we invite and call Him.

And just as my dad had what we needed, Father God too has everything that we need, and knows just what is needed and when it is needed. He loves to help His children especially when they call upon Him.

Don’t let fear and pride hold you back from calling God to come into your life and circumstances today! He loves you and cares for you He knows your hopes and fears, He knows you! He wants to speak with you and be there for you, He’s the perfect Father God! ??

Call your Heavenly Father today, sit with Him, talk with Him, and ask Him for help, I promise you God can handle it!
