I have almost always lived on the side of fear controlling me. Fear can show up in more ways than being afraid of spiders or not liking heights. Adrenaline fears, I’ve been fairly good at overcoming, but that’s not the only way fear can manifest.
Fear can show up in being concerned about what other people think of you or what you’re doing (comparisons). It can also creep in when thinking about what the future may hold, we as humans are often afraid of the unknown, unexplained, or things that are different from us.
I have found it is largely the inner fears that affect a person and control them more so than the surface, physical, adrenaline fears.
Why?
Fears of spiders or heights or mountain biking, etc. can often be avoided or only arise in particular instances that are fleeting.
However, inner fears of the future, what others think, etc. run deeper than the surface and constantly nag at a person, even occurring multiple times throughout a day.
Inner fears are what I allowed to control my life for a very, very long time, but no more!
I have been in the process of moving from fear to courage in all aspects of my life. Exposing my inner fears seeing them for what they are (lies) and being brave enough to overcome them. A major tool in my process has been doing the 100 Days to Brave devotional.
But of course it hasn’t been easy and is something I’m still continually working on. I wouldn’t be where I am or able to continue to move forward towards courageous living without God! He is my rock, my strength to not give up on the hard days and to rejoice on the good days.
God is preparing me for the World Race, knowing I will need to be brave and fiercely courageous, dancing through the storms instead of hoping or waiting for them to pass. What is God preparing you for?
Be brave and remember courage is not a lack of fear, but continuing to walk and move forward while confronting and facing fear.
I’ve learned that it is okay to be afraid, but not okay to let that fear dictate your actions. Don’t let fear control your life!
Do not fear them, for the Lord your God is the one fighting for you’. –Deuteronomy 3:22 NASB
The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me? –Psalm 118:6 NASB
Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you he will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” – Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT
