Well, the days are long and the weeks are short. That said, we are done with our Month 2 ministry and are on to different things once again. To recap, over this last month I have spent some good time in investing into monks, bikes and kiddos.
On the monk front, Davis, Travis and I have been going to one of the smaller Pagodas a couple hours a day to teach English to a handful of young men who are studying there. We have been building a solid relationship, and are finding that even though they wear orange clothing and shave their heads, they are people just like us. They enjoy a good joke, and are eager to learn about us and why we are here. We’re excited to begin sharing the gospel with them over the next month. God has been moving so much in allowing us a space to be salt and light.
On the bike front, I have been able to fix a local missionary’s bent wheels, and have resolved various smaller issues on our squad bikes. I have found that while working on bikes is something I am passionate about, it feels less urgent for me here. I will have plenty of chances to tinker after the race is over, but I only have one chance to build relationships here.
On the kiddo front, it has been quite difficult and at the same time incredibly rewarding. We had 2 classes a day, one younger and one older. Throughout the month the younger class was a big handful, and at most times it felt like complete chaos. Nonetheless, they have had some good practice with English, have gotten Jeremiah 29:13 on lock, and can rock out to some solid songs about Jesus. Most of all, I have gotten to be love to these children, even if it means playing tag or running around with them on my shoulders. And on my last day of leading the class, I was able to share the gospel and I have no doubt that the Spirit was working in the hearts of some of the boys. God is good.
The older class was much more controlled, and we were able to spend more time going over more conversational aspects of English. We also were able to delve deeper into some Bible stories ranging from Creation to the Resurrection, and we also had them memorize a handful of verses. The last day I was with them, they were able to ask questions about Jesus, and some of them are very hungry for the Lord. Even though I won’t be teaching for this last month in Cambodia, I am excited to continue building relationships with the older boys.
So for month 3, things are changing slightly in that I will be partnering with my teammate Christian to do ministry in a local trauma hospital in the mornings, as well as doing worship for the squad. We will still be investing in the Pagodas, and we need all the prayer we can get for seeds to be planted in good soil.
And one final thing, fundraising! I have been fortunate to have been able to raise over 2/3 of the funds needed to serve the Lord on this trip! Thank you to everyone who has partnered with me already! That said, I still need almost $5,000 by January so that I can continue on to Central America.
Pray about it, and if you feel like you want to partner in the work the Lord is doing around the world, Please donate! Tell your friends and your family! If you would like me to do another shirt fundraiser, let me know and I’ll make it happen!
Thanks ya’ll, be blessed.
