It’s taken me a bit longer to write this blog than I wanted it to but the other blogs just came to me over the course of a couple weeks. This blog took more thought and preparation to write. Things are changing. I almost can‘t put into words how things are changing but I can feel the end to this chapter. This chapter, the comfort of my home, my town, my church, even my car are all coming to end as I know them. I will come back after this year of missions work abroad and my home, town, church and car will still be here, Lord willing, but how will it be different? How will I be different?

Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. – Terry Pratchett

Q & A:

What will you be doing while you are gone?

I will be doing normal missions work, kids ministry, manual labor, but mostly from what I’ve heard we will be teaching a lot of English!

How did you learn about this missions trip?

I saw someone I went to school with do it a while back. Then when I met someone who was an alumni I did research on it because I felt like this was a good time to do something like this!

Did you have any initial fears signing up? How did you get over those fears?

I feared that I wouldn’t get accepted. I also feared that I was doing this more so out of my want than God’s want. But He has shown me this is exactly He where wants me to be.

What are you most excited for?

I am excited to travel and see new things. I am also excited to experience God all over the world.

What are you doing to prepare for it?

The main thing I am doing is fundraising. I am also saving money. I will be doing some physical preparation but mostly mental and physical. I have been seeing a counselor to prepare mentally and will be doing a lot of walking to prepare physically.

What are three things people can do to help?

The biggest thing is prayer. Pray that fundraising goes smoothly, pray for my body, mind and soul as I leave for a year and pray for my family while I am gone. Secondly, if you feel led, you can donate or participate in one of my many fundraisers that I have going on. I am pretty close to my first goal but I still have a long way to go over all. Thirdly, reaching out to me and letting me know you support me helps me tremendously. I love knowing that I am not in this alone and that people are praying and supporting me!

Is there anything you would want us to know?

I have prayed for this for so long, and have felt God’s confirmation so please know that this is exactly what God wants for me right now. I would not be taking on something like this without knowing God wants this for my life.

Out of all the different missions trips, how did you know this one was the right one for you?

This was the only missions trip I found that brings people out for this long. Also, I know people who have done this one so I trust the process of it and the organization.
