Welcome to Trujillo, Peru! This coastal city is in the north of the country, and the landscape is desert-like, with the Pacific on one side and mountains on the other. This month, my team is working with Savage Ministries, a Christian preschool in the poor part of the city.
Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we’re in the classroom helping the teachers. There are two three-year-old classes, two four-year-old classes, and one five-year-old class.
In the afternoon, we head over to the volleyball court for sports ministry. Here, we build relationships with people in the community while we engage them with sports.
On Wednesday, we went out evangelizing in the city parks, and were able to engage with 10-12 people in just an hour, including two policemen, college students, young parents, and an elderly lady. The church has an evening service, and three of us spoke during that. One person gave their testimony, one person an encouraging word, and one a message.
Saturdays are for a VBS-type thing, which we plan for. Last Saturday we did the story of the good Samaritan, complete with an Oscar-worthy skit and games. In the evening, I spoke to the youth on the fear of failure. I learned after the fact that several of them had to take a college entrance exam the next day.
Already I’ve confronted fears of mine:
-Speaking in front of the youth
-Sports ministry and connecting that to building relationships
-Working with such tiny humans in the school
-Having full conversations in Spanish
Enjoy these pictures of this past week!
Also, I want to thank EVERYBODY for helping me reach my latest fundraising deadline!! Your generous hearts overwhelm me. My LAST DEADLINE is April 30th, and I have to have my last $5,000 by then. Please be praying that the right supporters come through and have the same generous hearts that you do. It’s all for the Kingdom.
-Anna
