Malaysia was a tough country for me in the moment. Often our ministries were very unpredictable and our team was often scattered, which put a huge distance in our unity. I have come to appreciate the time I had there though and all that God brought me through. Here are some of my favorite pictures.
When traveling to Penang, Malaysia, we had to take a ferry from the mainland. As I sat on the ferry looking on to the city, I had no clue what to expect in this country.
While in Penang, we stayed at a YWAM base located in Little India. Most nights we ended up eating a cheese naan set with tandoori chicken from a little restaurant called Mustafas. This was the street view with a really cool rainbow casting over the city.
One of our ministry opportunities was that we got to travel to the mainland to help teach English to this guy named Zach. This is a picture of Zach cubed. Traveling to the mainland and back every night was a bit exhausting and made for some really long nights. Only a few of us had to go each time, so whoever went would come back to the hostel after midnight when everyone else was asleep. This was tough, but I hope that it was making a difference.
CJ got this sweatshirt from a thrift store that said “I am ok” on it and we all thought it was so funny. I had an idea of getting a picture of him eating ice cream while wearing it. One day one of our ministry hosts gave us tubs of ice cream. Later that night I saw CJ wearing his sweatshirt and it gave me the perfect opportunity to snap a picture.
We didn’t really do too much on our adventure days during our month in Malaysia, but one day we decided to take a beach trip. About a thirty minute drive from our hostel was a beach called Batu Ferringhi. It wasn’t the best beach, but it was a beach nonetheless. There we found a Wendys that was disappointing to say the least. It was nice though to relax for a while and have some fun on the beach. We even got to ride a banana boat and I almost got thrown off by the waves.
This is Adem. He was a worker I met at one of our ministries that was a feeding program for homeless people. He was definitely a character. We discovered that we both liked the same soccer team, as I saw that he had a Chelsea Football Club hat. I told him I liked his hat and before I knew it, he was giving it to me. I was not expecting it at all, but it blew me away at what a kind act it was. It reminded me that we were there to help and serve this ministry, but yet they had just as much of a heart to bless us and that is what we are called to do as Christians.
Thank you for stepping into a small part of what my life in Malaysia was like. I hope you enjoyed it and grew to learn a little bit more about me and the Race. More than that, I hope you were able to see God in some way through this post and be inspired to see what God wants to do with your life
