What does kingdom come mean? I’ve heard about “kingdom come” here and there discussed over the years, but never understood the significance and weight of it. During my World Race training camp, God spoke to me about another side of kingdom come. It was revealed to me that kingdom come has so much importance in this life of ours that I decided to get a tattoo and live my life around this idea.
Jesus once taught us how to do prayer. Commonly now known as ‘The Lord’s prayer’ found in the book of Matthew Chapter 6. Jesus tells us to not pray like the religious leaders did in the temple where their outward appearance was more important to them than their earnest heart to seek God. Jesus says to pray behind closed doors so that we may be intimate with God.
He then says to pray like this:
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”
Well, what is kingdom? Kingdom is where a king rules. A king who has his way and his say. It’s not just a place, but a mindset that those who are in the kingdom will follow along with their king.
How does kingdom come? Originally, I understood it as the awaiting of a new world where all things would be restored. But I’ve discovered there is more to it! Jesus was the prime example of kingdom coming. The way he lived his life showed all the aspects of what God wants in our lives. To truly love everyone fully, to serve those who are in need, to rescue the lost, to restore the lives of people, both physically through miraculous healings and spiritually.
Why do we want this kingdom? Kingdom in regards to the Kingdom of God is love, it’s light, it’s abundant life. Jesus says he came so that we may have life, and have it abundantly!!! (John 10:10).
I finally realized it’s not just about the assurance of the afterlife and heaven, but to have life full of heaven now! A life living in abundance! A life with so much joy and peace that surpasses all understanding because God’s way is not of the world’s ways. Not all who hear will understand or see God’s beautiful kingdom. But living a life focused on bringing his beautiful ways of loving others the way God loves us, is the first step of kingdom come!
Now experiencing a life where God has my back, and gives me such beautiful opportunities to live joyfully, I will never want to go back! He’s showed me so much on this World Race, a life that I have missed all these years, a life not about travelling but all the bits in between, in the day to day, living a life full of purpose!
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven!
If you still aren’t clear what it means, send me a message! I’d love to speak more about it!
