*Please note, this is just a fun blog with only a perspective of myself, and doesn’t really reflect actual facts of the entire country of Bolivia*
1) They eat very modest and don’t eat dinner.
So we found out that they usually don’t have dinner. Their meals in the evening around 6 consist of a little bit of bread and coffee. Like a tiny snack. The meal before that is lunch which is served around noon. I think I could get used to that. But we end up cooking dinner because we need a lot of food!
2) It’s okay to pee on the streets
Not only do they just pee on the street, guys just pee whichever direction they want. I saw one guy who was dressed in a nice suit, like a business man, peeing into the sewer drain facing the street road during sunset. Completely normal!
3) Its really cold here!
In La Paz, El Alto, it was really cold! And not much air conditioning either! But in Santa Cruz it was blazing hot! Climate here can drastically differ!
4) Their money feels light
Their coins are super light. Almost feels like they are not real. I guess they use a different kind of metal material!
5) We found a lot of gyms
In the capitol city of La Paz, looks like people are pretty fit! Lots of gyms and lots of people attending it!
6) They say Provecho after each meal
Apparently this is an all south America thing, but it was only this month we heard it the most. Where we had to say ‘provecho’ (similar to ‘bon appetite’) after each person at the table would say thank you to each person sitting at the table. When we have a table of 12 people, this could take a little while! 12 people times 12 people to say it, takes a lot of provecho!
7) When you greet people, you have to say hello to all
Similar south American culture, it is rude if you don’t say hi to everyone!
8) They take care of their doors
We walked past a lot of fancy looking doors. Looks like they put in their money to make sure their doors are nice!
9) Greetings can be a hug then a kiss then a hug.
This one throws me off a little. Some people would give a hug, then do the side cheek kiss, but followed with another hug! Sometimes it’s a kiss, then a hug, then another side cheek kiss! It’s difficult when it keeps changing each country! Lol
10) They are very particular with their bills
When exchanging bills, it has to be in perfect condition. If its ripped, they don’t take it. If its too crumpled, they don’t take it. Be careful to take care of your bills!
11) Chulitas are a real thing.
These are ladies who wear top hats and long thick dresses. They are usually older women around 40+ and are shorter and stocky in size. Really hard working ladies! Who are really strong and carry all sorts of stuff on their backs with a little fabric wrap!
