I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t expect I could be so blown away from a creation so beautiful. Going on this trip to the salt flats was originally an idea from the team. I didn’t have much expectations going in, but when Dan and I got there, we were in complete awe.
Something special happened when we got to the reflections. Something I could not expect. As I walked out into the open, I spent some time with God. It was the coolest experience ever to walk for 20 minutes in one direction into a complete open space. There was a moment where I felt I walked past the boundaries of where the human commotion was happening into the void of the great expanse. I was heading into the area where it was just God and I.
Off into the distance, you can see mountains that would take days to reach. You could theoretically walk forever. As I looked out, I could see the heavens meets earth. Where the skies touched the ground and the beauty of the serene tranquil scenery. I opened up my pocket bible, and it fell onto Psalm 119. The longest chapter of all psalms, but a very good one. As I read it, I was reminded of king David’s heart to seek God and his difficulties in doing so. His cry out to God to ask for help to continually seek Him was a reflection of my own heart. God wanted me to speak this chapter out and meditate on the words.
As I thought it couldn’t have got any better, the moon came out and it was an all-around view of sun, moon, and skies. I really love wide open spaces. I just marveled at how great our world was and how beautiful it is! And as if God wanted to surprise us further, a rainbow appeared! All of it just brought me to tears. Tears for the beauty I saw and the love of Gods creation and his heart to allow us to experience such beauty.
It was an hour that I would never forget. A moment of tranquil silence in the vast beauty that surrounded me. A slice of heaven on earth.
