This month is a little different for my team and I. Its what is called ATL or Ask The Lord. So What does that mean? It means we get up every morning and ask God what He wants us to do, where He wants us to go and who He wants us to speak to. Sounds like a crazy idea right?
So how did we get here? My team is based in Kampala this month, we were originally going to be in Rukungiri in western Uganda but due to some Ebola cases coming in from the DRC we had to switch to staying in the city. In a way its been a stretch because you really have to learn to listen to His voice and also be open to dropping everything and doing what He says. This has taught me that the way we are living this month is how life back in the States will be. AIM has a saying “Ministry is life and life is ministry” and this saying has become true this month. Everywhere we go we’re learning to be interruptible to do what He wants to do in the store or coffee shop or with our Uber driver. We as Americans tend to constantly be on the move and never take the time to slow down, even when it means meeting with each other. We’re always on our phones, having headphones in, trying to get our lists for the day done all the while Jesus is sitting there trying to get our attention to tell you what His children around you need. The issue is we just don’t take the time to actually listen to Him because we live in a “ME” society where only we matter and we have to be independent from everywhere and not take the time for anyone but ourselves.
As I come back to states in a little over 4 months I’m finding myself realizing the way we are living this month is how life should be back home. That means taking the time to talk to someone at the coffee shop, or taking that friend to do errands with you just to spend time with them and they need to talk, or taking that moment to talk to the person begging for money or trying to give you their mix tape because ultimately they need love as well. Can I challenge you with the same notion? Take time each morning to ask Him what He wants to do with you today, how can you bring Kingdom to those around you?
I’ll have a blog coming out soon about what I will be doing after the Race, but for now I’m finishing up the month here in Uganda before we leave next week for Kenya.
Be blessed!
Ty
