This is a fun blog for my first one here in Ecuador, I’ll tell you about ministry and stuff in another one, but for now buckle in and enjoy the ride. When we first got to our ministry site our host told us that two different times they’ve had all of their shoes stolen from their house. We live in a walled compound with 4 houses on it, so that means they have to climb over the wall to get the shoes. We all kinda laughed about it and thought it was such a weird thing to have happen.
Yesterday was Sunday so it means church and rest day, I was in bed most of the day recovering from being sick so everyone else went to church. After, we went to the mall and got these amazing fruit smoothies and to just hangout in the air conditioning (it’s crazy humid in Portoviejo). Its also rainy season so we leave our shoes outside our front door most of the time because they’re muddy and they smell. So just like every night that’s what we did last night.
Que getting up this morning for breakfast and walking outside to get our shoes and guess what? They’re not there!! Sometime during the night someone came and stole them. Half of our team now only has one pair of shoes left. My chacos got stolen which sucks because I wear them almost every day and you cant buy them in Ecuador so I’m stuck with my running shoes until I find some new sandals. Other people had chacos and running shoes stolen as well. The cool thing, is wasnt upset, honestly I was laughing about it. Shoes are such a trivial thing and I’m just thankful that they stopped outside and didnt try to come in our unlocked front door (we dont have a key for it) and make the situation even worse. Plus the jokes on them, I have ratchet feet and those Chacos do not smell great at all! ????
Isnt it just like the enemy to try to steal our joy?? We’ve had an awesome week of ministry so he tried to pull some of his usual tricks and get us discouraged, but I’m proud to say our team has had really good attitudes about it. Welcome to life in Ecuador!
