I am currently sitting in a coffee shop with some of my favorite people.
While I am sitting here, I was writing down declarations to say over myself when I start to believe the lies that satan whispers in my ear.
It’s a list of declarations my friend Abigail had written out on a piece of paper she keeps in the back of her bible. As I was writing them out, half way thinking about what I was doing half way listening to the new UPPERROOM album, I wrote down the last declaration.
“ I AM NOT THE GREAT I AM (exodus 3:14, John 8:24,28,58)
BUT BY THE GRACE OF GOD I AM WHAT I AM” ( 1 Corinthians 15:10)
As I finish writing this I think to myself “what am I?”
I don’t think it coincidence that the song “Washed” started playing.
The lyrics are:
“I am washed by the blood of the lamb
I am washed by the blood of the lamb
And by your scars, my sin erased
I am innocent”
HAHA WHAT!? I asked a silly question to myself and he answered so clearly and so fast. Then I went to read 1 Corinthians 15:10 and was even more blown away.
“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.”
Now I know I’m a lot of things but innocent isn’t one that I would label myself as.
I could make a list of things I’m not innocent in but by doing that I am disregarding the fact that Jesus came and died a HARSH death and then defeated it so that I, ME, MY FLAWED SELF, could be forgiven and so that I could clam the label of innocent.
So thank you Holy Spirit for ALWAYS showing up when I don’t even know you are in the place.
I hope that maybe someone need this small piece of encouragement today! You are what you are and thats forgiven and holy and INNOCENT.
