Dear Grandma,
I am currently living out your dream of foreign missions. I talked to mom earlier today and she was telling me that you taught her to live without fear. I am so thankful you taught her to live without fear because she has taught me to live without fear. Now I have begun this fearless journey and I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without you.
In the year of you living with us I gained some of the sweetest memories that have and will last me a lifetime. I will never forget coming home to you in one of your bright, colorful skirts welcoming me at the front door after a long day at school. I will also never forget eating skittles with you because you made me eat them one at a time, so I wouldn’t mix the flavors together. I thought you might like to know I still eat my skittles one at a time, so I can taste each flavor. But one of my all-time favorite memories is sitting on the couch with you eating raisins and listening to you tell me about Jesus.
I learned so much from you that year of you living with us. I remember hearing bible story after bible story. You told me about how Jesus died on the cross for my sins. You told me about the Father’s love for me and so much more. Little did I know that all those bible stories you told me about would later relate to my life in ways I didn’t know were even possible. Little did I know that I would be across the world sharing those same exact bible stories with little kids who are the same age I was when you were telling them to me.
Jesus used you to start the spark in me to know him better that led me here, across the world, to spread his name. In some small way I like to think a part of you is here with me telling these sweet people about our sweet Jesus.
Grandma, thank you for spending those afternoons telling me about Jesus and him dying on the cross to save me. You have a great influence on me being right where I am.
I miss you so much it hurts but I am so thankful for the time we had together. I love you and I can’t wait to see you again someday and we can eat skittles together again one at a time.
Love Tori Mae
