Recently in Swaziland, I saw one of the most powerful healings I’ve ever witnessed! My friend Ryan and I were in the city center of Manzini doing ministry. We decided to walk to the local grocery store to grab something to eat with the intention of interacting with people along the way. From where we were, there’s a shortcut one can take in which one crosses a grassy hill and avoids the streets. I thought it was best for us to not take the shortcut and to instead stay on the streets since we might encounter some more people along the way. Less than 20 seconds after deciding that, an elderly Muslim man wearing a kufi and walking extremely slowly with a severe limp approached us. He kept pointing at his stomach and sticking his hand out in hopes of us giving him some money. We invited him to come along with us to the grocery store which was three blocks away and offered to buy him some food there. Muhammad, as we discovered his name was, agreed and the three of us started to move in that direction. It was clear, however, that he was in a lot of pain and that it would take a while to get there. We then asked if we could pray for his leg to be healed. He rolled up the pant leg on his right side and pointed at his knee. I then placed my hand on his knee and said a very simple prayer: “Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask that Muhammad’s knee be completely healed. I ask that all pain be removed from it, and I command any spirit of infirmity or affliction to leave right now in Jesus’ name.” I then asked him to check his knee to see if it felt any different. He kicked his leg out and bent it upwards and looked at us both in astonishment. He then started walking briskly up and down the street and then began to run back and forth in complete amazement! He came back to where we were in a state of sheer wonder and kept saying, “How? How?” I pointed to the cross I was wearing, since he didn’t speak English too well, and said, “Jesus!” We then started moving towards the grocery store at a brisk pace. He even skipped a couple of times, the whole while saying, “How? How?” with a beaming smile on his face. I mentioned to Ryan that we should try to get a translator so that we could convey more to him about Christ and how he had been healed through Jesus. Ryan felt the same and then, right at the end of the block we were walking on, we saw two guys and asked if they could translate. We explained to the two guys what had happened and they were in shock. The guy who ended up translating for us said, “It’s a miracle! Wow! I’ve never seen such a thing.” This guy translated to Muhammad for us that we wanted him to know that he had been healed through Jesus Christ and that Jesus loves him and died on the cross to free him from all punishment, sickness, and death. The man who was translating then told us that he was actually Muslim himself but had been brought up in Catholic school and believed in Jesus as well. Unlike other Muslims, he believed that Jesus did die on the cross and that his body wasn’t switched out with a “phantom body” as many Muslims believe. It was so wonderful to have this Muslim translator be a part of the experience. Muhammad, Ryan, and I then went to the grocery store to get Muhammad some food and, all along the way, we kept stopping to tell people what had happened as Muhammad ecstatically demonstrated how he could only walk with a limp before and now was healed! While we were at the store, a man came up to us who was a Christian pastor. He had seen my Jesus t-shirt and was wondering what we were up to. We told him the story and then he acted as a translator for us and even shared some verses of his own with Muhammad. He referenced Ephesians 3:17 about Christ dwelling in our hearts and asked Muhammad if he wanted Jesus to dwell in his heart to which Muhammad enthusiastically replied, “Yes!” We then took a photo with Muhammad and Ryan filmed him walking which you can view below. Ryan and I each gave Muhammad a hug and watched in joy as he walked swiftly across the parking lot unaware of us watching him still. He got halfway across the parking lot, paused to kick his leg out in disbelief, and then moved speedily onwards smiling. Thank You, God!
