This past month, my team resided in the Malealea Valley of Lesotho. We were staying at a ministry/church called Africa 4 Jesus. Monday through Thursday, we’d go for a walk to the local villages that are in the mountains and go house to house praying for the sick and discussing Christ’s teachings with the villagers. The healing rate in Lesotho was remarkable. Nearly everyone we prayed for got healed! Many of the older villagers had knee pains, ankle pains, or shoulder injuries. After prayer, we’d ask them if they could try walking or moving their legs or arms in a way they couldn’t before. Invariably they could walk and lift their arms in ways they couldn’t previously and they felt a radical decrease in pain.
A powerful highlight from this month was praying with a young girl who had felt demonic forces trying to attack her at night. She felt as if actual witch doctors from the valley were threatening to kidnap her. She had been attending church at Africa 4 Jesus on Sundays and had been wanting to accept Jesus into her life. Whenever there happened to be an altar call for her to choose to accept Jesus, she would feel a negative sensation that prevented her from responding. We asked her if she felt comfortable to accept Jesus in that moment and she replied that she did. We then prayed the salvation prayer with her and my teammate Abby discussed the armor of the Spirit passage from Ephesians with her so that she felt more protected and reassured that, with Christ, the demonic attacks would cease. She was as joyful as we were to have met one another.
It was challenging to be in Lesotho because of its remoteness, but it was truly a beautiful month. Lesotho has a gorgeous landscape. It actually was the inspiration for the setting of “Black Panther.” The poverty and disconnection from the Western world as we know it really puts things in perspective. I must say again that we as Americans and Europeans have a social responsibility to assist these people who are in need. Poverty in America seems like wealth in Lesotho. I don’t care what specific organization you contribute to, but please consider helping Africa in some way. This month, we are serving in Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland. Please pray for our health and safety. Prodigious Love to all of you!!
