These are a few of the words that come to mind when I think about SJ.
My name is Olivia Wouters, and I have had the privilege of being SJ’s team leader the first 3 months of her race. Over that time, I got to know SJ pretty well. And when you get to know her, you can’t help but love her.
God has given SJ a presence that makes people feel welcomed and safe. Her integrity and heart of service challenges those around her to live a life above reproach. She has the deepest desire to live a life of surrender and total dependence; which is something I’ve loved watching her pursue and grow in. She seeks the truth and to ground her life in scripture. She sees the body of Christ the way He intended it to be and isn’t afraid to call out where it’s not operating like it. She walks in humility and vulnerability. SJ steps up to the plate when there is a need and does it with joy.
I want to thank you all, her donors, for supporting her on this journey. I want to let you know that she is not taking it for granted and is serving, loving, and chasing after God. She’s killin’ it and I’m so proud to know and call her my friend.
I wanted to share a fun story. I have lots, because SJ is hilarious and always makes me laugh. Buuuuut my favorite was probably when we first got to Peru. SJ was introducing herself in Spanish (pronounced like S-A-hota), and our youth pastor started to laugh. He then preceded to tell us that Cejota means big eyebrow. She had been introducing herself like that since Ecuador and no one ever told her. So now, she is forever my favorite big eyebrow.
Since I am going back to the US, we are raising up new team leaders. SJ will be the new team leader for team hope. She’s gonna be an amazing leader, and I’m so excited to cheer her on from the states!
CEJOTA, thanks for always being patient with my crusty dance moves, making me laugh, sharing your wisdom, and leading team hope so well.
I love and miss you beanhead,
Liv
