Today, as part of ministry, a few of us got to be a part of a prayer meeting. Tanya, the wife of Zoli our host, has the spiritual gift of prophecy. She asked the couple of us between the two teams here who also have the gift to be a part of her weekly prayer meeting. So today we got to sit down with her, her husband, and one other woman. They asked us to focus on this church, the next step for it, and the city of Sombor. They feel as though the battle they are facing now is strictly spiritual. When Tanya asked us to be a part of the meeting I was super excited. I have been seeking out a way to learn more about and use this gift God has given me. So we prayed with them. I asked God to do something that I honestly didn’t think would have such a dramatic effect, I asked Him to break my heart for the people of Sombor, those who don’t yet know His name or the extent of who He is. Immediately as if on literal cue I started crying. I started asking God why Zoli and Tanya feel like they have hit a wall. Why are these people not getting it? What is keeping them in the dark, what has a hold on them? Then He gave me a picture of the streets of the city I walk every morning now. There were people walking by, and attached to the ankle of every single person I saw was a ball and chain. You know, like the ones back in the day that they put on prisoners so the couldn’t run away. These people were walking around their city, dragging these chains behind them as if they had no other choice and it was part of their daily routine. Then God showed me a picture of a sword. At first it didn’t make a whole lot of sense, like okay are we back in A Knight’s Tale time era or something? And then He blessed me with interpretation and it all clicked. The sword I saw was the Sword of the Spirit, part of the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-17). These people walking around in chains aren’t free. Their freedom is limited to the life they can live while attached to this world and all its sin. The Sword can break those chains. God has given us the Holy Spirit and if we allow the Spirit in us to lead, those chains can and will be broken.
Naturally then I asked God the question, “So what do we do now?” And while I’m still waiting and not even 100% sure I’ll get a concrete answer to that one, I know this month I am going to allow the Spirit to lead me each day. He has the power to break chains and I have a feeling it’s gonna happen.
Let freedom reign in this place,
Sum
