MY DAD CAME TO AFRICA!!!
And who is really surprised?? My dad is one of the most adventurous people I know and I knew this wouldn’t be as hard for him as it would be for other parents. He is retired military and is used to living in situations that are not ideal. So when all the racers were talking about their parents coming and how nervous they were for the living conditions, I knew my dad could handle it and would not be phased. My 53 year old dad (sorry to reveal your age) stayed on the top bunk and shared a bathroom with multiple guys. He took cold showers and even helped slaughter a goat. He helped with the children and shared his wisdom about engineer things with the host. He experienced our worship and got to meet the people I have been doing life with for the past 9 months. He met my mentor who has been pouring into our squad and guiding us through this entire journey. My dad got to see what my life has been like these past 9 months and he got to see what makes my heart come alive. He saw me the most ME I have ever been.
But the most beautiful part of it all is this:
My dad got to see God in a way he has never seen Him before. He got to experience a touch of Heaven. He got to how beautiful, wonderful, and kind Jesus has always been.
I got to see my dad come alive in ministry.
I got to see my dad fall in love with the people.
And I got to see his heart break when it was time to say goodbye.
PVT was such a beautiful experience and I thank God for allowing my dad (and myself) to be apart of it. I also don’t think this will be the last time he will be in Ethiopia 🙂 missions are calling his name!
But anyways, I love you so much dad and I am so thankful you would come all the way here just to see me.
I will never forget this time and will always keep it close to my heart.
