I can’t believe it’s already the end of Month 1! Praise God for His traveling mercies and protection in October. There were no major sicknesses on our team besides colds and the one time when I slipped on some rocks and scraped up my arm and leg pretty bad. Other than that we made it in one piece! Praise God!

In just a few hours, our squad of 37 and our 2 squad leaders will all travel from the Philippines to Thailand together. I’m excited for what God will do in and through us for Month 2 of the World Race.

Depending on the Wifi situation where we are staying in Thailand, I will post multiple blog posts this week about the Philippines. Make sure you are subscribed so you don’t miss them. I apologize in advance for posting them all at once. It’s been a busy time of ending the month with the entire squad and catching up with how everyone’s month went.

Here’s a short list about Month 1/ The Philippines.

One thing God taught me in October:

   – I learned that it’s okay to miss home, my family, my dog, my church, and the conveniences of living in the greatest state and country in the world – New York, USA. Whenever I would miss home the most, I would pray for my community back home and be comforted and reminded by the Holy Spirit that all I really need to be satisfied is His presence.

One thing I learned about myself and living in community:

   – I am truly an introvert, but I love meeting new people and hanging out with new friends and hearing their stories. Some of my favorite moments in the Philippines were Sunday afternoons when the college girls would come to KIM and hang out before going to their Bible Study. On the World Race, I am constantly surrounded by people. I have to be intentional to find alone time to recharge. Sometimes I have to be creative. On one of our days off recently, I decided to stay behind while everyone went to explore. It was much needed time for me to recharge mentally, physically, and emotionally.

My favorite Filipino food:

Pancit and spring rolls! Thanks to Sis. Stella, a lady in my church from the Philippines, for exposing me to this great food even before I even knew I was coming to the Philippines. I also loved the soups, stews, and of course the white rice we had with almost every meal.

My favorite ministry activity here:

I loved go to the feedings and getting a chance to study the Bible with some of the mothers. It was always a special moment to pause in the day to sit with them and hear their prayer requests and pray with them after.

In summary,

I loved it here in the Philippines – our ministry house, the food cooked for us, the locals, the kids, everything here was a perfect start to my World Race. I feel like I was eased in gently to the uncomfortability that I know is to come over these next 10 months!
