Here are 5 of the 11 things I’ve learned this month. They are in no particular order. I was going to post all 11 at once, but it made for a really long blog post.
- Event planning is not one of my strengths.
- I now get why they call this mission trip the World RACE. Leading up to launch has been a long uphill journey and we still have months to go. There’s vaccinations, fundraising, learning what I need to pack and not pack for 11 months, and then there’s being present at my current responsibilities –work, church, volunteer roles, etc. Every day I have to remind myself that it’s God who called me and He will be faithful to complete His work in me and through me. (1 Thessalonians 5:24)
- Running has taken a back seat this month. The NYRR all-women’s 10K is in 44 days! I’m still training, but it’s been a real struggle to stick to my exact training schedule. My goal for the 10K was to set a new personal best time, but now my goal is to simply finish the race with a smile.
- There are hundreds of different types of tents, sleeping bags, and backpacks to choose from. The last time I owned a sleeping bag was when I was a Girl Scout a long time ago. Over the past 4 months, I’ve researched these things, so I have most of my gear now through lots of bargain hunting and research and talking with World Race alumni. The last 2 things I need to get are the backpack and daypack. I will be going to REI or Camp Mor in the next few weeks to try different ones on and make a final decision.
- Being in a community of like-minded Jesus followers around your age who have similar goals is good for the soul.
