Slowing Down My Spirit in My Fast

Tuesday was not my best day, I was hungry with a headache and no energy, as I prepared for the next day of deep prayer and fasting. My team and a few other squad mates are planning a weekly 24 hour fast for every Wednesday from Tuesday night Dinner until Wednesday night dinner. If you’d asked me last week what i thought about fasting, I would’ve given you some kind of excuse or surface answer, much less actually participate in my own fast. The past week or so I’ve been in a sort of wrestling with the Lord in the midst of a study to understand his character in order to uncover my own. I started in Matthew with Jesus step-by-step actions, all the while ignoring the answer right in front of me on the page in chapter 4,,, FASTING! So, Monday on our off day, a few of us went to a local coffee shop for Wifi and such but I ended up staying there for 6ish hours in the Word and reading a book, Fasting, by J. Franklin.

The book gave me so much insight and answers to why i should do it and how it would all go down.  I was fired up. So hungry for the Lord. But to my surprise I woke up to have just one of those days that’s just “ehhh.” and coincidentally my ministry was closed so we just helped out at the school. Frankly i was grumpy all day and was dreading the next day of fasting. Wednesday finally came around, and to no ones surprise but my own, GOD CAME THROUGH! I had the best sleep of my life and woke up so ready to conquer the day. Then when i went to continue my study about Jesus in Matthew 17, there it was once again, talking about the faith you have is in the truth and nothing is impossible with God just pray to Him and fast! I mean there were no crazy miracles or supernatural movements or anything after that it was just one of those normal days with normal ministry BUT where you feel His presence constantly around you… the most peaceful joyful fulfilling feeling ever! He taught me that faith isn’t this complicated spiritual thing it’s simply just trusting Jesus and allowing Him to give you what you need cause he knows what it is when we don’t. I finished the book on the way home and have so much to look forward to for all the upcoming Wednesday’s!
