A little life update. I’ve been here for a little over a week now and I finally found out my ministry for the next 3 months… I’m a teacher!
For those who know me know that I am extremely passionate about children and want to pursue a career working with them in some way or another. So now I get the opportunity to teach around 100 Cambodians age 5-22 years old English.
A typical day looks like this:
Breakfast at 6:30 AM followed by devotionals led by Sharelle, our ministry host. Children begin showing up around 7:45 and class begins at 8 AM. On average about 10 children attend the morning class. We sing songs, practice basic English words and phrases, and learn memory verses. This month our verse is John 14:6- “ Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.” We implement the verse into hand motions, group activities, games, and songs. The morning class ends at 9 am and from there my team and I typically go to a coffee shop or cafe to plan for the afternoon classes, or spend it as a time of rest. Lunch is at 11:30 and then we have personal time for a few hours. 4 pm is our second class of the day. Most students show up around 3pm to play soccer and games outside. This class is closer to 40 people. 5 pm- our final class of the day. Also the largest- around 50 students. Most of the older students attend this class because they attend regular school during the day. After our ministry for the day is done we have dinner with our squad, team time, and then it’s time to rest. Our days are busy and tiring but filled with so much joy and I can rest knowing that this is where the Lord wants me for now.
Loving every moment of being a teacher. The sweet smiles and laughs of students and being greeted by ” Hello teacher how are you?” outweighs any of the doubts I have for holding this position. I hope through me they know how much their Father loves them. That’s all I want for them.
