Dear non-believer,

When God gave me an order I was filled with fear;

So I thought by hiding I would be in the clear.

 I disobeyed and ran to Tarshish;

Because avoiding God was my greatest wish.

 I went to the bottom of a ship to hide;

Where I quickly slept and dreamt of my pride.

 Little did I know I was never out of His sight;

So I was tossed into the sea and went down without a fight.

 The Lord sent a fish to save me from death;

So in its stomach I thanked God with every breath.

After three nights, I was vomited onto dry land;

Where I felt ready to walk with God hand in hand.

 I went to Nineveh to spread God’s warning;

But to my dismay, He spared them the next morning.

I left the city filled with rage;

God and I were no longer on the same page.

I sat losing patience because I couldn’t see His plan;

But He revealed to me that deciding who receives His grace isn’t something I can do… only He can.

All the anger you have, I’ve been there before;

But you deserve something so much more.

While it may not feel like you are in the depths of the sea;

There are greater places you could be.

The journey will be hard, and your faith will be tested;

But when you walk with Him, you can feel rested.

You’ve heard my story and probably don’t think it’s true;

But lean in and listen, it’s all you have to do.

Sincerely,

Jonah
