I have faced a number of challenges from the enemy’s insecurities and lies. I may not be able to control the things that happen to me. But the things that happen to me don’t have to control me. The insecurities and lies that challenged me made it hard to feel adequate and enough. I spent years limiting myself, holding myself down, and not allowing myself to dream.

God is writing a better story than my insecurities, lies, and sin could ever tell. A few years ago I volunteered in the church but it was hard to be present when I lost sight of my calling.

All hope of any sort of ministry was lost. I felt called to help children and families in clinical settings. But God’s mercy is leading me into knowing I belong in a Christian ministry setting. He has restored my heart and lifted me from feeling unqualified.

Recently I watched a Netflix original, Girls Incarcerated- Young and Locked Up. I felt deeply connected to the girls and my heart longed to help them. Shortly into the season God laid on my heart the opportunity to work in a residential group home or on a ministry team that serves Juvenile Justice Centers and Prisons. Both opportunities impact the lives of families in crisis by providing hope and healing through the word of Truth to restore broken relationships.

Coming on the World Race has impacted who I am and who my calling comes from. I was so consumed with what the world “called” me to do. A few weeks ago our squad mentor sent out a email about year 2 opportunities. She reminded us, it’s not about finding the “next thing to do” it’s about slowing down and listening to the Father and living your life on purpose. I personally am taking an unconventional to pursuing more of what God has for me. Jesus disciples needed 3 years before they were sent out.

The past few days as I have slowed down and listened to the Father my purpose became so clear. My two years after the World Race are going to be spent exploring a career or service in working with families in crisis. I’m excited to see how the Father uniquely prepares me for a variety of career opportunities.
