Our team arrived at our first ministry location in Calama, Chile three days ago. It is crazy to think that we have only been here for that short of time because we have already seen and experienced so many amazing things.

On Saturday my team helped the church with a missions event called Cima Day. Missionaries from all over Latin America come to put on this event for the locals. The event lasts all day and includes multiple speakers, worship, breakouts, and an inner city evangelism experience.

My job was to photograph the entire day, which was something I never imagined I would get to do. I love photography and to be able to incorporate something I am so passionate about with ministry was such a blessing. The entire day opened my eyes to the vast expanse of ministry that I have been missing out on until now.

I have never been on a mission trip or interacted with Christians outside of the United States. The people we were working with spoke little to no English, making communication very difficult at first. However, as the day went on I began to engage more and build relationships with so many different people. The more effort I put into attempting to speak Spanish and relating to them, the more I was able to gain from each interaction.

At the end of the day the worship band was playing a song in Spanish and I began to sing along with the words on the screen. I had no idea what I was singing but in that moment, worshiping in Spanish I felt God’s presence so deeply that I began to cry. In that moment I realized that God’s love truly knows no boundaries and that it doesn’t matter what language you speak or what culture you are from, as Christ followers we can all come together and worship the same God.
