I never got to post my memory list from Myanmar so here it is!! These are some of the things I already miss and know I will miss forever…
- Surprisingly the weird noise the lizards would make at night. They were really loud and always scared us at first, but then after a few days we got used to them trying to talk to us from the ceilings and walls every night.
- Waking up to kids laughing and playing outside. The orphans houses were right next to ours and they would always get up really early and play out in the field. Wether it was soccer, chinlone, or just pushing each other around they were always smiling and laughing.
- Sometimes before night devos I would sneak off past the tree line by myself to watch the sunset. They were so vivid and colorful every night. Absolutely beautiful.
- All the people there called us their sisters and it made me feel so loved.
- The nights when there would be a rat in our house and everyone would scream and run and jump on things. We broke a lot of stuff that way.
- We would usually go to the market around dinner time and every time we went everyone there would see us and get really excited and yell “GOOD MORNING” even though it was like 5 in the evening, but that’s all the english they knew so we just said good morning back trying not to laugh.
- They do this adorable little heart with their thumb and finger, usually during class while we were teaching to make us smile.
- The only woman in our village that had a fridge in her store, lived about a half a mile from our house, so we would often walk there after school for a 30 cent bottled soda. She would always light up when she saw us coming.
- At a store down the road they sold this stuff called “special cake,” yes terrifying name… but the only sweet food we could find, so we ate large amounts of that special cake this past month.
- And lastly our sweet dog Lil Mama. She was extremely pregnant and had 9 pups 3 days after left. She hung out with us no matter what we were doing and always gave us a little tase of home.
If I’m being honest I was pretty ready to leave that place, but now after reflecting and looking back on my time there, there are things I will never forget and forever hold onto.
