We got to celebrate not one, not two, but THREE New Years so far in 2019. One in Uganda— January 1st, one in Malaysia— Chinese New Year, and one in Cambodia— Khmer New Year!!!

And if I’m being honest… Khmer New Year was the most fun! We drove an hour and a half out of our small village to the closest town (Kampot Town) and partook in the festivities there. In essence, it is a giant water fight with a lot of baby powder. Here are some highlights of that celebration:

And then there is this gem … they were fishing… (Enneagram 3s probably shouldn’t live together)

Cambodia itself was BEAUTIFUL (and very, very hot). It is filled with palm trees, cute cows, bold chickens, iced coffee in plastic bags, adorable children, and lots of family celebrations! We got to attend everything from children’s birthday parties to family reunions, and it was awesome. One afternoon, Shelby and I even had the ministry of helping a mom decorate for her son’s birthday party— he was turning 1!

We got to help teach English classes, put on a VBS, go to beaches, relax on bamboo cabanas, run from giant spiders and mice, defeat parasites, brush out dreadlocks, hear endless karaoke, do home visits, and so much more.

So, without any further ado, please enjoy some of my favorite photos from Cambodia:

The end of Cambodia also marked the end of Team DandyLion (aka the Flower Cat Cheese Bags)! We lived together for five months in Uganda, Kenya, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Cambodia. Here we were at our final team dinner in Phnom Penh:

AND, as a WONDERFUL BONUS/ cherry on top of my time in Cambodia, I got to eat lunch with one of my oldest friends from Colorado who moved to Cambodia almost one year ago to teach English (we’re going on 15 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP!!!!) one day in Phnom Penh… the lovely Hannah Hitchcock, everybody:

What a month!
