Just a couple mornings ago, in the early morning of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I asked God what He was up to. Jesus called my heart down an awakening street just a couple blocks from where I live. So, I walked there. Shops were being set up, and people were preparing for the day, but nothing was quite yet open.
It was a beautiful time of day, and I was thoroughly enjoying the walk, but I was uncertain of the purpose of being in an unopened market.
Then, my heart tugged me into an alley between two main streets near the end of the market. As I walked through the alley, I made eye contact with a man I’d never met, and I gave him a warm smile. His eyes lit up, and his face erupted in a smile in return. And then we both continued on in opposite directions.
And Jesus told me, “that was it.”
That’s all He had in mind in that moment.
Now… could it have been coincidence? Could I have made almost anyone’s day better by sharing a smile with them? Was it entirely random to encounter a stranger and smile at them? Possibly, yes.
But… what if (and just hear me out here) there is a God who loves you so much that when you’ve had a rough morning, or a lonely season, He legitimately asks another person to walk out of their way in an unfamiliar city to give you a non-invasive warm smile? A small thing to remind you that you’re loved, and that hope exists… because He cares and wants to meet you where you’re at.
Just something to consider.
