I’m finally here: Costa Rica. My last country of my Race. It’s a strange feeling. Settling in to the last bed I’ll sleep in before my own in Portland is surreal. And who knows what the Lord will do during this home stretch! But… what the heck was I just doing in Nicaragua?!! It occurred to me the other day that I haven’t updated you all on what my squad and I did there!

I lived for roughly six weeks on the outskirts of Granada, Nicaragua. It’s a pretty huge tourist destination, however due to the recent crisis in the country, it’s become far quieter and has fallen into a lot more poverty than what was typical. We worked with a ministry called REAP Granada, and it was incredible. It was some of the nicest facilities we’ve had while on the Race, and the community that was already present there instantly welcomed us as family. I even met some fellow Oregonians! I felt right at home there.

Weekdays looked like spending half of the day working on the farm (which is where we lived). This usually meant digging up massive roots. It was hard work, but satisfying. The other half of the day was usually spent on prayer walks. This looked like walking through our neighborhood and just… praying for people. Meeting them where they were at, speaking with them in love, and interceding on their behalf. It was beautiful, and my Squad and I saw a lot of fruit from it.

This is also where I celebrated my 21st birthday! I felt wildly celebrated and loved that day. It’s amazing how much can change in just a couple of years. Two years ago, I expected to not remember celebrating my 21st birthday, and yet there I was on a mission trip serving food in a dump and praying for strangers. God redeems.

This was pretty sporadic, but I just wanted to give a quick update as to what I’ve been up to. And to top of it off, here’s a picture of Mombacho! It’s a volcano in our backyard in Nicaragua (hence the name of the blog). We climbed it. It was a rough day. The picture doesn’t do justice to how large this thing was.

Anyways, more updates to come!
