First Week of Ministry
So since the last time we spoke we’ve been busy preparing for evangelism in the surrounding sectors. How have we been preparing you ask well let me tell you! So because we’ll mostly be working with kids we’ve been learning some new songs and dances to go with them; we’ve also been learning a couple of dramas to share.
Sunday: Our team ministered at the church we are staying at. A group of the girls shared their testimonies and dialoged with the youth. Pastor Willy said that most of the youth here in Colombia leave the church once they get to college because the philosophies they learn steer them away from the gospel. The rest of the group was in the service; some helped lead worship, some shared their testimony, one preached, and the others were present in the congregation (I translated).
Monday: Ministry was going on a hike with the youth from two sectors of the church. We took a 40 min bus ride to San Pedro bought some groceries and headed out to the waterfall. As we walked we were able to get to know the youth a bit more. Where they came from, what they dream of, and a whole lot of other things. There was one particular girl that my whole team was able to minister to without realizing that we all played a role that day until we got back to our house. From starting dialogue, getting to know her and her story, translating, and explaining the gospel to her we were a team that day. Her mind is ready to accept Jesus but her heart isn’t so if you could all pray for her that would be great!
Tuesday: Our day off, some went out to town others stayed home to rest and prepare for the rest of our time here.
Wednesday: We had worship practice for majority of the day but in the evening we went evangelizing in a little community about a 10 min walk away from out house.
Thursday: Our other day off! We had lunch at a sister house and we had the opportunity to pray not only for her but one of here neighbors who accepted Christ. We baked cookies and brownies and watched Lord of the Rings.
Friday: We went to the neighborhood of La Aurora Pedegral and ministered along the side of Pastor Diego and his wife Pastora Olga. We walked around the neighborhood and spoke to the people we came into contact with. We met some amazing people but the Afro-Colombian community stole my heart! Filled with life and a hunger for community and conversation I learned a lot from them and was able to share the gospel with them also. We also had a church service so we lead worship and the preaching again. God was able to minister to the congregation and a lot of healing took place.
Saturday: We got to play and minister to kids!!! After a week of preparing songs, dances, and dramas we finally had a kids event in La Aurora Pedegral. The kids stole our hearts and filled them with joy. One of the highlights of the week. We also celebrated Suze’s birthday! She turned 25 and the church bought her a torta (cake) to celebrate her:)
Entonces, desde la última vez que hablamos, hemos estado ocupados preparándonos para el evangelismo en los sectores circundantes. ¿Cómo te hemos estado preparando pregunta bien déjame decirte! Entonces, debido a que principalmente trabajaremos con niños, hemos estado aprendiendo algunas canciones y bailes nuevos para acompañarlos; También hemos estado aprendiendo un par de dramas para compartir.
Domingo: Nuestro equipo ministró en la iglesia en la que nos alojamos. Un grupo de chicas compartió sus testimonios y hablaron con los jóvenes. El pastor Willy dijo que la mayoría de los jóvenes aquí en Colombia abandonan la iglesia una vez que llegan a la universidad porque las filosofías que aprenden los alejan del evangelio. El resto del grupo estaba en el servicio; algunos ayudaron a dirigir la adoración, algunos compartieron su testimonio, uno predicó y los otros estuvieron presentes en la congregación (traduje).
Lunes: El ministerio iba de excursión con los jóvenes de dos sectores de la iglesia. Tomamos un viaje en autobús de 40 minutos a San Pedro, compramos algunas provisiones y nos dirigimos a la cascada. Mientras caminábamos pudimos conocer un poco más a la juventud. De dónde vinieron, con qué sueñan y muchas otras cosas. Había una chica en particular a la que todo mi equipo pudo ministrar sin darse cuenta de que todos jugamos un papel ese día hasta que regresamos a nuestra casa. Desde comenzar el diálogo, conocerla y conocer su historia, traducir y explicarle el evangelio, éramos un equipo ese día. Su mente está lista para aceptar a Jesús, pero su corazón no es así, si todos pudieran orar por ella, ¡sería genial!
Martes: Nuestro día libre, algunos se fueron a la ciudad, otros se quedaron en casa para descansar y prepararse para el resto de nuestro tiempo aquí.
Miércoles: Tuvimos práctica de adoración la mayor parte del día, pero por la noche fuimos a evangelizar en una pequeña comunidad a unos 10 minutos a pie de nuestra casa.
Jueves: ¡Nuestro otro día libre! Almorzamos en una casa hermana y tuvimos la oportunidad de orar no solo por ella, sino por uno de los vecinos que aceptaron a Cristo. Horneamos galletas y brownies y miramos al Señor de los Anillos.
Viernes: Fuimos al vecindario de La Aurora Pedegral y ministramos junto al Pastor Diego y su esposa Pastora Olga. Caminamos por el vecindario y hablamos con las personas con las que tuvimos contacto. Conocimos a algunas personas increíbles, pero la comunidad afrocolombiana me robó el corazón! Lleno de vida y hambre de comunidad y conversación, aprendí mucho de ellos y también pude compartir el Evangelio con ellos. También tuvimos un servicio en la iglesia, así que dirigimos la adoración y la predicación nuevamente. Dios pudo ministrar a la congregación y se llevó a cabo mucha curación.
Sábado: ¡Tenemos que jugar y ministrar a los niños! Después de una semana de preparar canciones, bailes y dramas, finalmente tuvimos un evento para niños en La Aurora Pedegral. Los niños robaron nuestros corazones y los llenaron de alegría. Uno de los mejores momentos de la semana. ¡También celebramos el cumpleaños de Suze! Ella cumplió 25 años y la iglesia le compró una torta para celebrarla 🙂
