I’m in Colombia (Medellin to be exact)! We landed at 12:30am on the 9th and spent our first night at a ministry called Ciudad Refugio. Their ministry focus on getting people off the streets and drugs and connecting them with companies and programs that will teach them a trade to help them stay off the streets. They also have a school, bakery, and church that they also minister through.
The next day we were able to get to our actual destination; about a 30 min drive. As we drove up to the church/ our home (Ministerio Vide Nueva AG) for the next month we were able to see Pastor William and his wife Pastor Cristina ready to welcome us with smiles on their faces. As we walked in we took seats in the church and we all got introduced to one another. Being the best native Spanish speaker it quickly became my job to be the translator.
It was orientation time. So I’ll just do a quick break down of what our month will look like here. First couple of days its prayer, fasting, getting to know the city and transportation, along with being decipled by other American missionaries. Some prison ministry, worship ministry, a picnic with youth from their church, going into three different sectors of Medellin to evangelize, a kids event, Sunday services, and interpreter for me. We will be leaving Colombia on the 5th of November.
So Medellin is Beautiful!!! For you plant lovers its surrounded my green lush plants everywhere you go. Their transportation system puts America to shame. For me to get to down town I take a short 5 min drive down to the gondolas. The gondolas are maybe a 10-18 depending on the time of the day and their train system is so clean, easy to use, and top notch! I wasn’t able to ride the new BART cars in the Bay but man these put those to shame form the pictures haha. Oh and I can see the whole city from our house. At night when all the lights are on its beautiful; it does remind me of looking at San Francisco at night its just missing the bay and the bridge.
Side story when we went to get our metro cards we took a quick stop at the Pastor’s sister house to use the restroom and guess what we saw. A talking bird! It was really great her name was Gorda and the guy’s name was Rafa. The Pastor family where really so kind.
I was talking to Jezzie, one of my teammates, and we both said that it feels natural here; almost like if it is home. It still doesn’t feel real to me; I don’t know if its because it feels so natural or because its just where I am supposed to be right now in my life.

Estoy en Colombia (Medellín para ser exactos)! A las 12:30 am aterrizamos el 9 y pasamos nuestra primera noche en un ministerio llamado Ciudad Refugio. Su ministerio se enfoca en sacar a la gente de las calles y las drogas y conectarlos con compañías y programas que les enseñarán un oficio para ayudarlos a mantenerse fuera de las calles. También tienen una escuela, una panadería y una iglesia que también ministran.
Al día siguiente pudimos llegar a nuestro destino real; a unos 30 minutos en coche. Mientras conducíamos a la iglesia / nuestra casa (Ministerio Vide Nueva AG) para el mes siguiente, pudimos ver al Pastor William y su esposa, el Pastor Cristina, listos para recibirnos con sonrisas en sus caras. Cuando entramos, nos sentamos en la iglesia y todos nos conocimos. Siendo el mejor hablante nativo de español, rápidamente se convirtió en mi trabajo para ser el traductor.
Era tiempo de orientación. Así que haré un breve resumen de cómo será nuestro mes aquí. El primer par de días es rezar, ayunar, conocer la ciudad y el transporte, además de ser engañado por otros misioneros estadounidenses. Algunos ministerios de prisiones, ministerios de adoración, un picnic con jóvenes de su iglesia, yendo a tres sectores diferentes de Medellín para evangelizar, un evento para niños, servicios dominicales e intérprete para mí. Saldremos de Colombia el 5 de noviembre.
Así que Medellín es hermoso! Para ustedes, los amantes de las plantas, rodean mis verdes y exuberantes plantas donde quiera que vayan. Su sistema de transporte avergüenza a Estados Unidos. Para llegar al centro de la ciudad tomo un corto trayecto de 5 minutos hasta las góndolas. ¡Las góndolas son quizás un 10-18 dependiendo de la hora del día y su sistema de tren es tan limpio, fácil de usar y de primera categoría! No pude montar los nuevos autos BART en la Bahía, pero estos los avergonzaron de las fotos, jaja. Ah y puedo ver toda la ciudad desde nuestra casa. Por la noche, cuando todas las luces están en su hermoso; Me recuerda a mirar a San Francisco por la noche, solo falta la bahía y el puente.
En la siguiente historia, cuando fuimos a buscar nuestras tarjetas de metro, nos detuvimos rápidamente en la casa hermana del Pastor para usar el baño y adivinar lo que vimos. ¡Un pájaro que habla! Fue realmente genial que se llamara Gorda y que el chico se llamara Rafa. La familia del Pastor era realmente tan amable.
Estaba hablando con Jezzie, uno de mis compañeros de equipo, y ambos dijimos que aquí se siente natural; Casi como si estuviera en casa. Todavía no me parece real; No sé si es porque se siente tan natural o porque es justo donde se supone que debo estar en este momento en mi vida.
Bueno, eso es todo por ahora. Lo mantendré actualizado con lo que sucederá a continuación. Una vez más, gracias a ustedes que me han ayudado a llegar aquí financieramente, a través de la oración o el aliento.
