A shack with straw as a roof, dirt floors, and a fire pit for cooking.

A cement structure with cold floors and a small kitchen.

These could have been our living situation for this month but boy are we blessed beyond all measure!

We live in a place called Casa Blanca on the outskirts of the city of Quito. It’s a large, beautiful home with hostel style rooms–4-8 beds per room.

We have bunks with real mattresses, sheets and warm blankets. My whole team gets to be in a room together which helps make time together a little easier.

We have a community style bathroom with 4 showers, 3 toilets, and 3 sinks

We have a large living space downstairs where there is a large sectional couch (that is SO comfy) as well as 2 love seats and LOTS of pillows and blankets!

We have an eating area and a large kitchen where we can cook on the weekends and help our hosts cook during the week. There are at least 9 stove burners and a metal farm-style sink

The front yard, although we haven’t used it because of lack of time and complete exhaustion, has a volleyball net and space to sit on the porch

We are safe because we are first of all, in a gated community and then have another locked gate to enter the house.

Finally, and most importantly, we have such kind hosts! Mabe and Fabi have been hosting World Racers for years and they have this DOWN! They cook amazing food, they joke with us and immediately make us feel like part of the family, they love us well and do their best to serve us in any way possible!

How blessed we are to live in this secure, beautiful home with all the amenities! It’s nice to be able to come home from a really tough day of manual labor and have a shower, hot food, kind hosts with warm smiles, and a cozy bed to sleep in.

I am blessed beyond all measure!
